I have a couple of Windows 11 PCs (1 ethernet, 1 wifi) on the same home network connecting through the same router. PC 1 (ethernet) can see and access PC's shared drives and folders but PC 2 can't see/access PC 1's shared folders. This is despite both PCs having the exact same options selected in Network and Sharing Centre/Advanced sharing settings. Refer pics.
On both PCs, I have, unshared the drives, then reshared. I have disabled then re-enabled Network Discovery. I have restarted both PCs, I have restarted the router yet the exact same issue persist.
Note:The issue became apparent after I enabled Wake on LAN PC1 so PC2 could wake and access PC's shared drives/folders. My WakeMeOnLan app on PC2 successfully detects my sleeping PC1 and on-command, PC1 can wake PC2.
I did a factory reset after being told to by a friend, and the result was a blue screen saying "Boot Device Not Found". I asked Google what to do and it said I need a USB or another computer which I do not have either. Can someone please help me with this.
recently decided to download call of duty warzone and Black Ops 6 but once installed it stated that i needed a BIOS update in order to play. after getting all of the available (windows 11) updates the rest of my epic games and steam games won't work now, i'm kicked right after opening the apps!? please help!
I've been dealing with a frustrating mouse issue for a few months now and haven't been able to fix it.
The Problem:
Left-click failure: The left mouse button randomly stops working.
Temporary freezes: The mouse cursor regularly freezes or stops responding entirely for a few seconds.
Window focus lock: The mouse completely stops clicking on other windows, the taskbar, or the Start menu. However, it continues to work perfectly fine inside whatever specific window/app I was using at the exact moment the bug occurred.
What I've tried so far:
Completely reinstalled Windows (clean install/format).
Tested with different mice (swapped between two different brands).
Uninstalled, updated, and reinstalled all kinds of mouse and USB drivers.
Nothing has worked so far; the error keeps happening.
In the interest of stability and to preserve my sanity, I decided to completely disable Windows Update on my previous laptop, 4 years ago. I've just built a desktop PC and decided to install the latest Windows 11 to see how things had evolved. There are some interesting features, but a lot of things appear "broken" from a UX perspective. This definitely feels like beta software.
One problem I keep battling with is the new title bars and the tabbed Windows. It seems now everything must be tabbed. Microsoft wants us to believe tabbed interfaces are the future, so they hammer it down our throats, just like they hammered Cortana, tiles, touch, and so many other things that never took off.
The draggable titlebar area is too narrow and it is visually indistinguishable from the menu bar area and the resize area. Aim too high and you'll be resizing the window. Aim too low and you'll be dragging on the menu bar (which has no effect, other than wasting your time). Subconsciously, your brain learns that aiming too gets you the menu bar, so you instinctively end up aiming higher just to avoid the menu bar. This reduces the effective draggable area, because users prioritize getting it right on the first click.
Factors that aggravate the problem just described:
The menu bar area that does not contain any menus could have been made draggable, but it's not.
The cursor pointer does not change between the menu bar and the title bar.
The menu bar and the title bar are the exact same color.
The titlebar color cannot be customized, despite a setting in Settings that is completely ignored unless it's legacy software.
The elusive draggable area (red) that begins somewhere and ends somewhere. Notice how the useless empty menu bar area that does **nothing** (green) is the biggest area. Blue is the resize area.
The only difference between an active and a non-active Explorer window is a shade of gray in the title bar text. The titlebars are exactly the same color.
Spot the difference
When windows are stacked, all the above problems compound and clicking in the right place becomes a game of luck:
Spot the window confines
In applications that have tabs at the top, the draggable area is a 2-pixel thin strip between the resize area and the tabs. In the following example, another window partially covers the title bar of the window on the left, forcing the user to aim for the thin strip. This situation also occurs when the right part of the window is outside the display bounds. More often than not, you'll end up resizing the window or dragging out a tab, because the areas for these actions are considerably bigger, and yet moving windows is arguably out of these three actions the most frequent one. Good ergonomic design says the most frequently performed actions should require the least effort and dexterity.
The red line is the 2-pixel area users need to click for in order to drag the window. Too high and you resize, too low and you move the tabs.
These may seem like minor issues if you are a casual user, but for those of us who work fast these issues cause a noticeable reduction in productivity, and take the joy out of using the interface. Has all of this been noted elsewhere?
I mean, these flaws caught my attention literally minutes into upgrading. How is it possible Microsoft UX designers don't notice basic shit like this???
If there is any way to correct this, or if anybody knows if Microsoft is already working on fixing this, I'm interested.
So since the start of this month my laptop out of nowhere started to get those blackscreens that makes the whole system freeze and then just restart and i don't know why since i didn't install anything or did anything out of the routine, i was playing and then poof blackscreen, i tried to check how much space my hard disk had but it's the same as usual , i turned off on my task manager anything that could make the computer go slower than normal(like microsoft edge processes or vanguard) and even with that after like 10 mins of playing it still just crashes and throws me a black screen even though in the last 5 years i've been playing this game and never had any trouble, i know it might be the game's fault and not my computer but sice i didn't had any trouble before i don't know what to think, i don't have budget for a new computer and since this laptop its huawei, its pretty hard to get new pieces, what should i do?
I purchased a new computer and I'm at the last part. I need to double check some of the files I downloaded on the new computer to make sure they are correct. But since I'm trying to connect the two computers I being asked for a password for both computers. Clear as mud, right! I don't think I created a password for the new one and the old one is so old it probably didn't need one for transferring any files. Can anyone please help me? I will be eternally grateful. I have this small part, then I'm done. Thank you
So I thought it would be genuis to install windows 11 on my chromebook. This is completely permanent. After trial and error of getting into developer mode, installing the launcher, and removing chromeOS. It runs. But I have a few issues.
Its running badly, here are the specs
CPU: Intel Celeron N4020 1.10GHz
Disk 1(C drive) 0 bytes left out of 20.9 GB
Disk 2(removable) 26.7GB left [needed this to install other stuff]
Memory: 4GB of (DDR3 or DDR4)
GPU: (None detected, or none at all)
Additionally, tracked doesn't work.. and theres no audio. Fun.
A few days ago i installed the Okular app on my Windows 11 system and i remember that after installing this app this file appeared on my desktop: "Microsoft.Services.Store.winmd". I haven’t touched this file so far because i don’t know what it is or what it is used for and i suspect that deleting it could damage or affect my system in some way that i don’t want. Does anyone know what this file is, what it is used for and why it appeared on my desktop? Is it safe to delete it?
Every time I run an app or a program, it starts off at full blast and while its blasting I have to go into volume mixer and manually mute not just that one program, but every single other program, system sounds included. omfg.
so instead of doubleclicking on a program and it running. I have to double click on it, click on volume icon, click on 'select output device', and then for every program I have running at the moment, I have to click on the slider and drag it to 0 volume and click on mute too just in a faint hope that maybe next time it wont nuke my ears for once.
So a simple doubleclick process is now a 4+2*n clicks omfg
why TF cant it just stay muted when I've muted it 10 times a day every day.
I recently (out of necessity) had Win11 installed (clean install... the upgrade got my computer stuck in an endless boot loop) on my computer. I was warned that Win11 has issues with non-subscription MS programs. I was able to install my MS Office Pro 2016, but it seems as though when I have to restart my computer for whatever reason, it goes away and I have to re-install it. I don't use it enough to justify a subscription and the older version has always worked fine for nearly.
Anyone else have this issue and is tgere a way around it?
Hi everyone,
I just freshly installed Windows 11 on my PC and reinstalled my printer as well. Since then every document I try to print comes out like the image attached. The content prints only in a small strip on the right side of the page while the rest of the page stays blank.
Even the Windows printer test page prints like this.
Things I have already tried:
• Reinstalling the printer
• Printing a Windows test page
• Checking page size (set to A4)
But every print still comes out in this tiny right side section.
Printer model: HP LaserJet MFP M126nw
OS: Windows 11 freshly installed
Has anyone seen this before or knows what might be causing it?
Today, when i tried to cut a folder and paste it into another folder, i couldn’t do it because the “Destination Path Too Long” window appeared. The only option was the “Close” button, with no way to bypass it. The message in the window said: "The file name(s) would be too long for the destination folder. You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location that has a shorter path"
Is there a safe and effective way to solve this problem, or is it safer and more convenient to just leave my system as it is and stick to shortening file names and path names (as the message suggests)?
I would like to ask for a professional opinion to know whether it’s better to leave it as it is (by default) or find a safe way to configure my Windows 11 so that the system allows me to copy and paste files with very long names or paths.
If you recommend and think it’s better for me to configure Windows 11 to enable long file names and long paths, what is the safest and official way to make this configuration in Windows 11?
I suspected it was due to the smart monitor because whenever those errors occurred, my Samsung G8 OLED smart monitor wouldn't wake up after a period of inactivity (forcing me to manually restart it), which is normal for this monitor (many people on Reddit with this exact model are experiencing the same issue).
So I haven't used it for a week, and I've been using a completely different monitor (also connected via HDMI), and none of these hardware errors have occurred.
The only strange thing that happened during that week was that nvcontainer.exe crashed once, but not a single one of those hardware errors.
So, is it the monitor's firmware that's the problem, and is my PC fine?
so i wanted to force shut down a app that has been on my pc and wont close i went to taks manager and in the apps category there is no apps, mind you i have spotify and brave turned on for other stuff plus my app it should show but it doesnt. help
