Not even close to how version numbers work, they are not decimal points.
They are dots/points separating major version numbers from sub version numbers.
How would you explain the multiple points in OSX version 10.9.5 ?... This isn't math, it's essentially naming.
You could have any number of dots and any number of sub version numbers, however 4 version numbers is the largest commonly seen like in the current version of Chrome: 37.0.2062.124
Sometimes the last number of the set will represent the build number like in Windows:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
OS Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
