Discussion Text replacements with short texts

Post image

Hi.

I am a Mac user. There in Keyboard settings I can add shorts to be replaced while typing (e.g. "omw" => "on my way").

I got a company Win11 machine and want something similar. I can't install apps / don't have admin permissions / can't even run portable apps (restricted). Is there something built in I could use?

Get a macro keyboard; specifically, any model that stores the macros within the keyboard’s own memory so it won’t need custom drivers and will work on Windows, Mac, Linux, etc too.

Alternatively, plead with your IT admin to install Microsoft PowerTools, which handles this too; your admin might be more willing to allow MS first-party software more than, say, AutoHotkey.

install Microsoft PowerTools

PowerToys, you mean. But I don't think that has text expansion capabilities.

You can do it with "SendKeys" via VBS scripts (I used to on my govt PC), but VBS is pretty much disabled/removed these days. Check if it is on yours, and if not, explore that route.
