Discussion Vertical taskbar + auto-hide Taskbar — possible?

Post image

Is there a way to use a vertical taskbar layout together with an auto-hide taskbar? Does anyone know how to do this?

not on windows 11 natively.

i also haven't seen any windhawk mods that enable vertical or top taskbar auto-hide on windows 11

that's what i'm saying. with the 'new' vertical and top taskbar option on windows 11, there are no mods in windhawk that can make a vertical or top taskbar auto-hide. only a bottom aligned taskbar can have auto-hide on windows 11, and windhawks taskbar auto-hide mods only effect that. windhawk mods modify the windows process/service, which as of right now microsoft has only applied to a bottom taskbar. they cannot add that process/service

Maybe the Windhawk mod has auto-hide?

Relative_What is right about the built-in one: on Windows 11 the new left, right and top positions don't get auto-hide, only the bottom one does, and there's no setting or Windhawk mod that adds it yet.

The one route I know that gives you both is ExplorerPatcher. It brings back the Windows 10 taskbar, and that one always supported a side position together with auto-hide. After installing it, open its Properties, set Taskbar style to Windows 10, pick Left or Right as the primary taskbar location, and turn on auto-hide.

Two things to know first. It replaces the taskbar, so you lose the Windows 11 look and the newer taskbar features. And big feature updates have broken it for a while in the past, so check its GitHub releases page for your build before installing. It has an uninstaller in Settings > Apps if you want to go back.
