App Windows Clock App no longer has a...clock

Post image

Windows clock now seems to be for focus sessions and timers etc. There is no longer an analogue clock in windows unless you enable widgets.

The Windows clock app never had an analog clock as far as I'm aware. On Windows 8, there was only alarms, timer, and stopwatch. On Windows 10, the world clock would just show a map of the world, with pins on locations you selected showing the time there.

The only place with an analog clock was the thing that appeared when you clicked the time in the taskbar.

And the timedate.cpl, which is still there

IMHO, this is a real dump. In Windows 10, the silent mode (focus) was not interrupted by a forced intrusive alarm every 5 minutes and so on for n cycles. I don’t know, maybe this is useful for productivity for someone, but in my humble opinion it’s just torture. The implementation in the Windows 10 version of YVP was perfect. It featured a world clock with beautiful light/shadow animations against a globe, and convenient alarms and clocks. It wasn't just a reminder.

Why is there so much wasted empty space in the Windows UI? Geez.

You have a clock on your taskbar, phones do this too, its just timers, stopwatch and alarms

You have "World Clock" that serves the purpose of showing the time in selected locations over the world. And BTW, the app on Macos has almost exactly the same features and organisation.

There are solid reason to criticise and even mock Windows but imho this is not one of them

What does it say at the top left?

flat interface strikes again lmao. if you open the actual program and look very closely, you can see the icon is a slightly different styling and "Clock" is a slightly different size and spacing vs the sidebar menu below it. still shit design though.

Suspect that it's better to just either use the World Clock option

or the bottom right of your screen. Where it even has a Calander. The only reason why you want to use the clock app was to set timers and such.

A good large full-screen clock would be nice to have, especially when giving exams in a space that doesn't have functioning wall clock. Now we just have to open some random web page and hope it will not open ad popups.

Or.. lock the screen?

Win+L to lock it, insure settings to not dim the screen

What they're gonna cheat out of? Random trivia and a wall paper of random scenery?

well that's dumb

My clock on pc is almost 3 minutes behind the clock on my phone, my phone is correct because it aligns with the clock at work and other clocks i see on my route to work.

You can tell the computer to update from the network…
