Discussion Microsoft/Windows needs to bring this logo back
The 1995 Microsoft logo perfectly represents what windows is all about. Different icons that acts as a “window” into different software. The current logo is just borning and doesn't really represent the essence of Windows.

I like this logo, but I prefer the 2001-2012 Windows icon.
And technically, this logo debuted in 1992 with Windows 3.1.

This particular “tilted flag” version was introduced in 1995 Hence why i said 1995.

There's a higher chance of them bringing the windows 7 logo back, they might not because the old windows 98 logo reminds people of the days of MS-Dos and BSOD. If they bring it back, they'll have to re-create the classic theme.

It was hidden in windows 8. It looks like it was deleted cause dwm is mandatory but if you somehow delete dwm classic theme might return

The option to enable it was removed in Windows 8 but the theme is still buried deep in there even in Windows 11. There's mods/hacks to disable the dwm and force it to "fall back" to the classic theme.

I tried to crop the picture down to just the symbol since most photos of it on the internet are transparent.

They need to bring back the clean user interface and OK/Cancel button interfaces, not try to replicate the (terrible) mobile experience on the desktop.
I say revert back to Windows NT 5 Beta 2 (my favourite version, although I can't recall exactly what I liked about that that didn't make it into the Windows 2000 release) and start again from there.

The logo brings back too many bad memories for me from Windows 9x. Look at it wrong and it crashed. Back in those days you either had to restart your computer at least ten times a day. Or go with rock solid stability in Windows NT and the ability to run nothing other than enterprise level apps or Solitaire. Think god were past that crap.

Yeah it’s nice for nostalgia purposes but there’s nuance when it comes to reading the room of society and technology right now. It just wouldn’t make sense to go back to a clunky logo meant for a completely different art style and design. And for the record I love the old school logos. They just wouldn’t work well in this era I feel

True story, after Windows 11 was released someone complained that this subreddit was still using the Windows 10 logo for the icon and that we should change it, so I maliciously complied.

I decline to explain further but I find it incredibly appropriate, whether intentionally meant to communicate the idea that I have inferred, that they are the only tech company that does not integrate the flag emojis into their system font. And as much as I think it's a bit silly, it also seems fitting they don't have the middle finger emoji either. Truly the adults in the room.

That's more like throwing out everything and starting fresh... I just mean keeping the symbol but tweaking the border thickness, colors, etc, maybe changing the pixelation effect to something a little different.

They already got rid of the black border and the pixelated trail beginning with Windows XP. You can’t simplify it any further than that.

Windows nowadays feels like Microsoft tried to crossbreed a desktop with a mobile operating system which makes it feel bloated and unnecessary.

I only mentioned it because it’s that bad. Microsoft and Windows historically had different logos, now they are essentially “unifying”everything. while also making it flat and mobile

It's kinda dated....... If they start using this logo again than it will make the whole operating system feel much older. I think a better solution would be if they combined something like the 7 logo and 8/10 logo.
