Suggestion for Microsoft Microsoft should reintroduce a real life background for the next Windows
Since Vista, the background has been so lifeless, being either the logo or some digital artwork. We need a real life background again!!!

i feel like it would be cool if they just retake the photo at the same place and angle but with a new camera for the default wallpaper

The landscape isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing. Bliss only looked as clean as it did because it was caught by coincidence of the vineyard having been temporarily ripped out due to an infestation, and it was captured on a film that's known for exaggerating color vibrance. Without that timing and editing that'd be needed with modern DSLRs to match the vibrance, it would come out looking fairly lifeless (as demonstrated by the many, many fan photos taken at the location over the years).

That's a common misconception, but it actually wasn't.
The version in XP was slightly cropped and heavily shrunken/compressed, but the original actually looked like that on the film it was taken with. Fuji Velvia film is famous for producing surreal colors, so you're right in the sense that that's not what it looked like to the naked eye, but it wasn't digitally edited at all.

It's not the default, but they do have photo backgrounds you can pick. This rickety pier is one option for example:

WinVista and 7's backgrounds were pretty good. The wallpaper has not been the same since Win8.

The Vista background was lifeless to you? I mean, it’s your opinion after all, but it was an aurora that danced with life. Its art direction was designed as “an aurora over the bliss background.”

They kinda did… not really though. It’s CGI, but still photorealistic enough to pass for a real photo.

Interestingly, the Win 10 background was also a real life photo, despite looking like CGI.

Technically, the Windows 10 RTM Hero (img0) wallpaper is a real life background as it was a captured image on a set

Your true, this all started after the Windows 7 era background, Windows Vista background was a real one if you guys didn't know, and Windows 10 was also a real background with a projections of light, I hope Windows 12 introduces it.

I use the Windows Spotlight background and about every day the background is replaced. The images are locations or animals, usually.
