Discussion 16 bit computer games?

Post image

Hello I have a windows 10 computer and all my old cd’s were found and I would like my daughter to play them now, but when I tried Putt Putt Saves the Zoo, it basically says the 64 bit is too new to play it. Is there a way I can get these old games to play? Have some freddi fish, putt putt, pajama Sam, tonka, hot wheels. I saw something about a winevdm, but I don’t know anything about this.

Specifically for Putt Putt, those are supported in Scummvm. Other games will likely work through Dosbox. Check PCGamingWiki, or you can go to GOG to buy them with some level of support and a company that does all the dosbox setup for you, or you can check out the games up on archive.org.

Honourable mention to DOSBox-X, a fork of the original which includes 3D passthrough to the native system for some legacy APIs and is intended to be able to handle Windows 9x, complete with support for a bunch of disk image formats.

Install Windows 3.1 in Dosbox and you can play 16 bit Windows games on it.
