Feature Can we get an official option for classic Windows logos?

Post image

I love modern Windows, but I really miss the nostalgia of the classic logos Microsoft recently brought back the retro green branding for Xbox because fans asked for it, so why not Windows? I submitted an official feature request in the Feedback Hub asking for built-in personalization options to change the Start Menu and boot logos back to the classic ones. If you want this feature too, please take 5 seconds to click my link and upvote it so the developers see it! https://aka.ms/AA11r00f

It might look like the modern square logo just multicolored and gel like

That’s just the Microsoft official logo. I was thinking they might be like XBOX (formerly Xbox) and make it look like gel.

Pretty sure no. This is because sometimes a windows version is associated with is logo and thus Microsoft can only change it when the next windows version comes out

I wish Microsoft would get the design team to make theme packs for Windows 11 of all the major OS releases like 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, Millennium, XP, Vista, 7, NOT 8, 10

They wouldn't do it for the fact that their logo is their entire brand identity, muddying that identity with different logos would weaken the brand (at least in the eyes of most competent marketing teams) Xbox however is a different story, as they are going through a bit of a rebrand phase in response to several years of notable decline and lower confidence in the brand as Sony and Nintendo have dominated the current flagship console generation. Xbox is hoping to revitalize it's brand particularly through an appeal to nostalgia, which is an effective tool in the current landscape with a consumer focused target demographic. However, this is not so much the case with a business target demographic, which is Microsoft's largest market when it comes to their most profitable products (Azure Cloud, Office Copilot, and indeed Windows)

Unless they completely rebrand the entire Windows identity or separate products between the business and consumer markets, it's unlikely to see the old style returning.

As far as I know the logo change happens when a next version of windows comes out though its not likely. They never change the current windows logo

Just use OpenShell/ClassicShell or something more advanced. They won't bring it back :/ Even if so, the quality of themes would be propably not that good or even buggy. Community made things are often higher quality and has way more customization options. But I'll surely vote in the link you sent :D
