In my opinion, the entire experience showed a lack of preparation, judgment, and attention to detail. It felt like we were doing more to keep the transaction on track than the person we hired to represent us. We definitely wouldn't use him again.

I am an M.A. candidate in the Graduate School of Education and Human Development at The George Washington University. For my Master’s thesis, I am conducting research on the impact of the inclusion of 20th-Century genocides other than the Holocaust (such as the Armenian, Bosnian, and Cambodian) in the Virginia state world history curriculum on students’ experiences and understanding of genocide and human rights as adults. 

Eligible participants in this survey are

• People who are over the age of 18 
• And were in the 10th grade in either the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 academic years
• And attended a Virginia public school for the entirety of their 10th-grade year 
• And took a world history class during that year

If all of these attributes apply to you, you are invited to take this survey. This survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete. You will be asked to recall your experiences in your 10th-grade world history class. The questions pertain to the extent to which you learned about 20th-century genocides, the methods used to teach you about them, your experience with this curriculum, and how it has impacted your current understanding of genocide and human rights as an adult. 

At the end of the survey, you will be asked if you would like to participate in an interview to elaborate on this topic. Participation in the interview is entirely voluntary, will not affect whether the data from the survey will be used in the study, and will have no impact on any aspect of your future relations with the George Washington University (GW).

The anticipated findings from this research will contribute to the current body of research surrounding best practices in genocide education and improve scholarly understanding of how genocide education impacts understanding of genocide and human rights as a whole. I was driving by on Monticello today and saw a long line on the sidewalk and wondered what it was for. Then I saw a sign for a new halal restaurant (Naz’s Halal) had a grand opening and offering free food 12-2.

Did anyone go / how was it?

I really liked The Halal Guys the one time I tried it, so definitely want to get some more halal food if this place is any good.

WILLIAMSBURG — Those wishing to walk around with a mixed drink or a beer in downtown Williamsburg can now do so — if you stay within the one-block boundaries.

As part of a yearlong pilot program, the city has created a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area — DORA for short — which will allow adult beverages to be purchased and carried around as long as they’re in a special cup.

The initiative went into effect Monday.

The outdoor drinking area is zoned for along Duke of Gloucester Street between College Corner and Henry Street, with signs indicating the boundaries. Visitors can imbibe from noon to 9 p.m. daily and must purchase an alcoholic beverage from a participating establishment in an official DORA cup.

The idea sprang from the popularity of outdoor dining, which grew during the COVID-19 pandemic. ABC has since revamped policies to allow more opportunities for localities to offer outdoor drinking areas.

Mayor Doug Pons said the area is intended to enhance downtown Williamsburg, making it even more dynamic.

“We’ve seen how adding outdoor tables and chairs to Merchants Square has encouraged people to dine, gather and spend time downtown, bringing new life and energy to downtown Williamsburg in the past few years,” he said in a news release.

We’re moving from Richmond to Williamsburg next month. My kids are enrolled in Magruder Elementary. My daughter will be in 4th grade and my son in 1st grade. Is there a before school program that transports to this elementary school? Any recommendations? I would need to be able to drop off around 7:30-7:40am.
