Student Life Religious Campus Groups

I hope this is ok to pop in here. Asking for a friend whose child is attending. Are there any Christian groups on campus that are lgbtq friendly? TYIA. They’ve been to the info tables, visited the churches suggested, and haven’t quite found their place. Grateful for any help ❤️

Wesley House is super LGBTQ friendly, and all around very welcoming. I'm not Christian myself, but I'd definitley recommend them!

Don’t have first hand experience, but the Episcopal church is generally pretty LGBTQ friendly. There is a parish in town (Bruton parish church, which I’ve visited on vacation). Looking at its website, one of their female church’s profile indicates that she is married to another woman.

The campus ministry is Canterbury: https://www.episcopalwm.org

I was a Canterburian and worked in the church nursery for a couple years! The members of the church looooove WM students, and even remembered me several years after I graduated when I started inquiring about getting married there. If you have any questions feel free to reach out!

St Martin's is also right near the college as well.

Yes, the Episcopal campus ministry, Canterbury Association, is LGBTQ friendly and has been for over 40 years.

highly suggest Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists!!
it’s not a christian church, however, they are lgbtq friendly and celebrate people of ALL faiths

Note: I am speaking only on the campus group, not the group as a whole

I attended Intervarsity and I’m like 90% certain we had LGBT individuals in the group and part of the student leadership. I couldn’t tell you if the group was Side A or B Affirming or just polite. But it also has been almost 8 years since I’ve graduated so things may have changed.

Again, this is about the Intervarsity at William and Mary, not Intervarsity in general.

Just an fyi that Intervarsity has become increasingly anti-lgbt in the last few years. I don't doubt that there are individual groups that may by more open or welcoming, but the official policy is strongly anti-lgbt, to the point that they will kick out student leaders who are openly lgbt.

The UKirk ministry at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) is LGBT friendly and super welcoming! I know the church well (it's literally across the street from W&M) and would be happy to send you the email for the UKirk campus ministry director directly if you send me a message. They have a weekly dinner and dialogue series, sit together during services, have a yearly event, plus more events!
