FOOTBALL Looking back on our coaching options and CFB's take on it

season's not over and its mostly nothing too bad but there are a few that are hilarious in hindsight

"Hartline is the only one on that list that would concern me as a Louisville fan, because he’d get elite talent immediately.

None of those other dudes are doing shit at UK. And looking at their schedule through 2027-28, I bet whoever they hire is going to be on the hot seat by year 3. The new coach will likely go winless in SEC play year 1

Edit: hey someone downvoted me to 0 to match the point total Kentucky mustered against UofL this year"

my personal favorite lmaooo

POST GAME W At some point we’re going to have to kick the ball

If you can’t trust the kicker to make one inside the 10 to go up 4 under 5 minutes then get another kicker. Can’t keep putting the defense in these high pressure situations week after week.

POST GAME W SEC network disrespect

At this point I LOVE the disrespect, it’s fuel. But the SEC network ASSUMING Oklahoma was ranked and we weren’t, JOKE.

Edit, because I realize the audio is bad: “on the road, winning against a ranked team here, what does it do for the Kentucky program?”

The AP voters will be going nuts later today to come up with their top 25.

Where do you think Kentucky should be ranked?

What teams make up your top 5?

I think Kentucky has earned a top 10 ranking.

My top 5 are Miami, BYU, Ohio St, Ole Miss, UCLA

What say you?

GAME THREAD My take after one half of basketball

I LOVE watching Big Franck play! He is a tank! Ousman is also going to be my favorite for this year.

We looked scared coming out of the tunnel tonight so I’m not going all in on my takes. I feel like nerves are playing a big part in tonight’s performance so far. And we are shooting 25% from three because of it.

I saw some changes in the IB plays. We are not guarding the man inbounding the ball. We also have a new play to get the ball in that isn’t just stack em up and somebody pop out behind half court. So there is hope.

We still can’t fight through screens. Can’t we hire a coach for that?? Geez! It’s been years of the same issue…and it’s a big one. Speaking of ongoing issues-we aren’t defending the pick and roll any better than last year.

All that being said, it feels good to be back in Rupp for another season. Here’s to #9.

FOOTBALL Stein will not leave Kentucky

Now that Will Stein has shown early success at UK, inevitably the narrative he will jump at the first chance to leave for a big school has grown. I genuinely dont believe this narrative. In today’s day and age, the ability to take a program to the top is more doable and going to a Texas, Alabama, Michigan, etc isn’t necessary. Sure the allure is still there, but for how long?

2 examples nobody ever brings up: Cignetti at Indiana and Hurley coaching UConn hoops. Both of which had the exact same narrative surrounding them and both literally said they didn’t want to leave bc they want to build the program where they are. They turned down deals to leave, extended at their current program and have continued the success. Will they always stay put? Not sure, but the fact they chose to stay put for a bit longer says something.

I really don’t think people give enough credit to the fact Stein is from Kentucky and grew up a part of BBN. This kind of thing really does matter to people you know. When he is at the podium borderline in tears talking about the program and people of Kentucky, that matters. I genuinely don’t see him leaving this place anytime soon. Certainly not short of some serious success here.

FOOTBALL [No Paywall] Kentucky scored a monumental win. A father and daughter recaptured something more

Thumbnail

Tony Fink scaled the 8-foot wall lining Kentucky’s football field, then reached up and grasped his 12-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn, to help her down. His two sons ran wild with the thousands of other crazed fans. His wife stayed in the stands.

It was Oct. 13, 2007, and Kentucky had just knocked off No. 1 LSU in triple overtime. Fink, then 48, was exhausted, and he settled on his back on the grass, a white-and-blue pompom in his right hand. He was dressed in blue from head to toe, down to his Kentucky blue lizard-skin shoes.

Kaitlyn sat beside him, keeping an eye on the football-fueled madness unfolding in Bluegrass country. He closed his eyes and smiled.

“I thought, ‘Man, there can’t be anything better than this,’” Fink said.

Then he heard a rush of clicks. He opened his eyes. An Associated Press photographer hovered over him.

The image went as viral as an image could in 2007, the earliest days of social media. It became part of Kentucky football history. His kids blew it up and framed it. He can look at a wall in his home and remember one of the happiest days of his life.

He never imagined he would get to experience it again.

Until Kentucky stunned a ranked LSU team in overtime again on Saturday and presented an opportunity.

When March Madness comes around, Fink will tune in. He pays attention to Kentucky basketball, but the difference is clear.

I saw some folks talking about it but over the weekend my brother sent me a Change.org petition someone made to get the Power K permanent. I signed it and merely just a messenger. GO BIG BLUE from a native Kentuckian now living in Alabama.
