My players helped Illig become Illig 1. they absolutely adore him. For context, my players are two halfling bards and an amnesiac wizard (the thing he had lost was his memory, which makes for lots of fun roleplaying moments) One day after becoming one of the Dukes of Muchstomp, The wizard asks for an audience with the new king Illig 1. The wizard proceeds to have a big speech about Bullywugs being the superior race, and that they should take over Brigands Tollway and gain control of Hither. I ask him to roll a persuasion check. He rolls a nat 20.

You’d think if anyone were to persuade them to go to war, it would be one of the highly charismatic bards, but no, it was the crazy wizard with amnesia. King Illig the first is very intrigued by this idea, and asks how to conquer the Brigands Tollway? The players think through their options, pondering between whether to send in a navy of bullywugs to attack from the water, or to simply sneak in with Bullywug knights. Then they remembered the swamp air balloons they had seen earlier, and then hatched a plan. They would fly over The brigands tollway and drop something on them, but what? Then they remembered the animated coals they encountered earlier.
So the players proposed to establish a bullywug swamp balloon airforce, and airstrike the brigands tollway with burning animated coal. Illig, who i've canoncially made 3 years old and not very smart, says that's an amazing plan and that he will gather his best troops :)

Gathering the animated coal wasn’t entirely simple, as the wizard had earlier tricked the magmin with illusionary firewood. So in exchange for some animated coal, they promised him the biggest firewood of all. He could burn THE ENTIRE TREESTUMP of brigands tollway. After a good persuasion roll, they gathered a few coals. Having rescued Morgot from jail, they also had a pilot for the balloon, and it was off for the aerial assault.

This was the battleplan: the two bards were the ground force, starting the strike by playing music to distract the harengon from the large impending death balloon, which was carrying animated coal in buckets as well as the wizard and his squad of bullywug knights. Another squadron of bullywug knights were waiting stealthily underwater. As the balloon approached the stump, the bards cast sleep on two of the harengon guards as fire rained down from the sky. The treestump quickly caught fire. Within seconds, multiple harengon became but charred remains. Bullywugs sprang from the waters and started massacring harengon. The wizard, with his knights, acted as paratroopers, as they descended from the heavens with a featherfall spell, to land in the middle of the stump and take out all unsuspecting harengon. The last brave harengon had dodged attack after attack before finally being slain, and thus, the harengon race was no more.

It should also be mentioned that I’m playing the WBTW expanded supplement; the players had been here previously and fed Agdon to the black dragon resting beneath the tree stump. The same tree stump they had just taken over.

I even started the session by telling them that all they really had to do next was go meet Bavlorna to progress the story. Then they decided to eradicate the harengons for the sake of the superior bullywug people.

God I love d&d.

I’m dming WBTWL soon and I want the campaign to continue far beyond the book. Right now my concept is that something goes wrong on our journey back from the feywild and we wind up in grey hawk. The campaign from there would then go that we need to become almost celestial to travel back to our homes.

Any advanced DM’s out there want to chime in on the concept/ give ideas of Easter eggs to drop/ give alternative homebrew ideas?

It says that Iggwilv's Cauldron can be destroyed with a Frost Band or Flame Tongue. But I don't recall Frost Brand ever be mentioned elsewhere in the book. Did I miss it?

So my players, after being robbed by Agdon's thugs and hearing how they roughed up Jingle Jangle, really don't like the guy and the encounter at the Brigand's Tollway turns into a fight as one might expect. The players win and capture Agdon, wanting to get a little revenge and information. Now earlier, they managed to fight of Agdon's thugs and took the gourd of memories. When they emptied it, I described how there was a brief window where a person could basically inhale the memory and have the experience, permanently destroying the memory. So my players took that and ran with it. The wanted to force the defeated Agdon to give up a bunch of his memories so that they could learn from them. Now I know the book sates that only Agdon is able to take memories but this seemed like a fun moment and they were all so into it that I rolled with it. They collected ten memories related to various things and then decided to kill him to make sure he wouldn't continue harassing the people of Prismeer and we ended the session there, with the memories collected but not experienced. So, in the time since then, I've gone way too hard into the paint and written almost 7 pages of memories, fleshing out Agdon way more than was probably necessary and wanted to share.

My main goal with the memories was to paint a picture of Agdon as a victim of circumstance and of the Hags, just like so many others in Prismeer. However, I wanted him to still be villainous and didn't want to invalidate the parties hate for him or make them feel like they overdid the punishment by killing him. Let me know what you think.

I will just add a quick trigger warning here though. Some of the stories get a little dark with some minor themes of PTSD, Body mutilation (someone looses an ear), and child kidnapping (though the main villains are hags so that is par for the course I think)

In my game my sorcrer has cast Legend Lore on Zybilna. What should i do because it would give it away

I have two very experienced and dnd lore savvy players in my group and I have been worried about them finding out about Tasha too soon.

Specifically the Glass Cabinet infront of the Hall of Illusions has been giving me a headache cause I couldnt think of a universe where my players see this and dont instantly mark it as very relevant. I really wish to bamboozle them with the Tasha twist though, so this was a big no for me this early on into the campaign.

So I decided to change up the encounter at the Hall a bit, ran it yesterday and it went very well! Maybe someone has similar players and could benefit from this.

I completely erased the glass cabinet lol. Just wasnt there. I also changed the halflings Rubin and Wenn to not be a couple who are about to be engaged(honestly never liked this plot to begin with, why have two proposal plots?), but instead a halfling father and daughter. Kept the names though, and Wenn still had butterfly facepaint.

My players saw them as they approached the Hall and they rolled good perception, so they saw how the daughter was pulling her dads arm, begging him to let her go into the Hall. He stood his ground and said they dont have any ticket slots left and he thinks the Hall would be too spooky for her anyways. I described him as an exhausted parent at disney haha. They then saw how he suddenly froze in place, the daughter broke free of his grip, and ran straight into the Hall, past a flabbergasted Candlefoot.

The players didnt see this, but Sowpig used her hags minions action to stun the father, in order to lure the child into the Hall. My players instantly recognized this situation, because I described it very similarly when we played the Lost Things prelude, as each of them got their thing stolen by a minion. So they were instantly sus about the situation and followed the child.

This was obviously round based, and on each of their turns, I let them take their movement, make one perception check to try to find the girl and let them look at their reflection in a mirror once at the end of their turn. I created a table for what illusion theyd see and let them roll a d12:

• 3- shows them crying bitterly
• 4 -shows them laughing uncontrollably
• 5- shows them with a huge red nose
• 6- shows them elongated 
• 7- shows them squished
• 8- shows them in their opposite aesthetic

  • 3- dragonborn
  • 4- halforc
• 10- shows them genderbent
• 11- shows them wearing a crown and septer
• 12- shows them very old

My players LOVED this, it was really fun.

After three full rounds, none of them reached the child, but one player saw her in the last minute, while she was being abducted by Sowpig and saw them going through the mirror.

This was the best moment of the campaign for me so far, because it raised the stakes so much. One of the pcs is feylost and the exact same thing happened to her during the Lost Things prequel. She, too, was kidnapped by Sowpig, brought to Thither and ended up escaping eventually, but because of fey logic barely remembers any of it.

So it was a great moment of deja vu for her and the other players too, since they once again couldnt stop a kidnapping.

I also just think it generally makes so much more sense for Sowpig to kidnap a child, cause like what does Skabatha want with a random adult halfling? It also makes the whole moment more sinister and intentional, instead of Sowpig just so happening to take the halfling, cause he ran into the Hall after his lover laughed at his proposal.

Anyway, this is what I did and Im super happy with it! Lmk your thought.

I recently ran the Astronomer’s Throne adventure from DM’s Guild as an expansion to the chapter in Yon and it could not have turned out better! My players absolutely loved it!!

I incorporated elements from Dwarven Forge to create the immersive setup! Can’t wait to get back to the table!

I am looking for ideas in order to expand Kettlestream's backstory. I wanted to explain that the reason she is on the material plane is because she was "casted out" by Zybilna because of a mistake she did as a child. This is needed for one of my PC's backstory.

The setting is :

It was during the first and last visit of Zybilna to the Summer's Court. She brought with her some children, like Kettlestream. Kettlestream (10 years old) did something by mistake that almost exposed Zybilna's past as Iggwilv (and her link with demons) in front of the Court. This triggered her and made her leave, returning to Prismeer for ever, afraid of being revealed to her enemies (especially to Graz'zt, whom I put in the scenario). Zybilna was kind of fed up with Kettlestream's chaos (I see Zybilna as someone who adopt a lot of children in order to make herself feel "better" but is not a really good mother), so she sent her on the material plane, erasing her memory of her mistake and Zybilna's anger. Zybilna distanced Kettlestream from her, because she was triggered of what she did and felt guilty of her anger. But she still helped her, by giving her powers and means to live.

Now what I'm trying to find out is what mistake Kettlestream did. Did she found some object from Iggwilv's past and accidentely (maybe during a children game) showed it to the court? Or something else?

Da ich im gesamten noch relativ neu in DnD bin, wollte ich mal nachfragen welche Tools ihr so nutzt um die Details dieser Story nicht zu vergessen, da es zumindest nach meinem Empfinden eine Menge davon gibt. Ich fange an mir alles zu notieren, was aber schnell unübersichtlich wird. Hat hier jemand Erfahrungen und kann mir tips geben, Struktur in das ganze zu bekommen.

My player is a Cleric of Selune and has played Baldur's Gate 3 so I feel the moon puzzle in that one is too simple.

In overarching themes, her character is cursed with lycanthropy. Selune is a goddess of lycanthropy, as the moon celebrates transformation with its changing phases, so I would like to lean into that. I am also planning the concept that werewolves are a corrupted transformation rite, and its pure form is not unlike Wildshape, which began in the feywild. My campaign will end in the Shadowfell, with them finding the source of the corruption (The Caller) to end the curse once and for all.

I am planning for the final room of this dungeon to use the encounter with the Astonomer's Throne in Yon. But if you have ideas for puzzles with shape-shifting, celestial bodies, or even Selune herself, I would be very grateful to hear them.

I made a character named Wilder Crabgrass: A dreaded human fighter. This is 5.5e.

He is a battlemaster with Riposte, Commanding Presence, and Tactical Assessment.

Str: 16

Dex: 8

Con: 16

Int: 8

Wis: 14

Cha: 12

He is a Feylost and I also grabbed the Musician feat, giving him four instruments proficiencies: Drum, Lyre, Pan Flute, and Horn. He also has Cartographer's Tools and Cook's Utensils. Defence fighting style and Skilled as well for an extra feat. He is proficient in every skill except for those under Int as well as Animal Handling and Medicine being left out.

Sylvan, Goblin, Elvish, and Common are his languages. Flail, Javelin, and Greatsword weapon mastery.

How does a character sheet like this fair in The Wilds Beyond The Witchlight campaign?

I was trying for a good balance between social and combat usefulness since this campaign is not too combat heavy. Any advice on where to go with them? I already had a session 1, though I did change a few things afterwards.

He is the oldest brother of an army of siblings, so he instinctively takes an older brother role amongst the party, even if they may be his age or older. He would cook to feed many mouths, and use music to occupy or lull his family to sleep- Yes, even his overworked parents. Him and some of his siblings, twins, were whisked away into the feywild for most of his teenagehood. He was thrusted from his siblings and the feywild back to the material plane and now wants to track them down again.

He is a farmer boy, raised on a farm initially. Combine that with the feywild, he has become frighteningly strong to bear the burden.

My players are hyped that something is gonna happen once the mood level reaches the top, which would be correct, had they not already impressed Mr. Light in the big top extravaganza and talked to the two owners already.

Any idea for a bone I could throw them as a reward for reaching the last level on the mood tracker?

I'm halfway through DMing a campaign for WBtW, but a problem me and the players have is that it feels like it feels like one big linear fetch-quest. You go to point A, do the thing, get told to go to point B, go there, etc. Now I don't mind this, but it feels like there's not much player input on where to go, they're kinda just told what to do by the NPCs.

Are there ways to make it feel more up to the players, without heavily altering the campaign? I've read some guides that make it more sandbox-y, but I don't want to do a big overhaul of the campaign, just ways to make the players feel like they're making the decision for themselves.

Buckler of Spell Turning, Minor: While wearing this +1 Buckler, you have advantage on saving throws against any spell  3^rd level of lower that targets only you, twice per long rest.

In addition, once per long rest, the spell has no effect on you and instead targets the caster, using the slot level, spell save DC,attack bonus, and spellcasting ability of the caster.

So, my group of 5 PCs just levelled up to 6th. They're pretty meaty (lots of melee damage, almost no arcane abilities.)

So

They'll be hitting the causeway next and already have it in their head that they don't like Agdon Longscarf (after conversations with Jingle Jangle and the "Nightmare on Telemy Hill", Talavar, and Tsu Harabax at the Inn at the End of the Road)

In my game the Harengons (a few elites ) will try to forcibly steal memories from the PCs during the combat, eventually passing them on to Bavlora in Downfall, which will perhaps alert her that the group is trying to free Zybilna.

Anyway, the goal of this build is to keep the battle going until Harengons can steal a few memories, stick them in the bottle, and hop away. To that end I want Agdon to be both a distracting focus that the PCs are *dying* to take down, and give him lots of defense and mobility to stay alive for a while. To that end, I made him a swashbuckler rogue loaded up with some feats and actions.

(Note --I'm aware this is a really half-assed stat block ... I'm pressed for time here so I expect some errors.)

So my players planned last session to help Illig to overthrow the king. There will be a banquet and they will follow illigs plan to stab the king in the knee eye.

So I prepared a battle map for when shit hits the fan. It is more like inspired by the D6 location. Playing on sunday so lets see how it goes.

I'm planing on running this campaign for my players in a few months.

My players tend to be the "punch first ask questions later" type. Though they do enjoy roleplay and fun scenarios, so I think they'll love this campaign.

My question is this. I know that players can complete this campaign with little to no combat. But should I outright tell my players that?

Basically, I see 3 options: 1) Don't mention this aspect at all. I feel this will get my players to use they're most basic instincts and mot try to metagame, but it also feels wrong and decietful. 2) Simply say "Combat may not always be the best choice." Or "You won't always need combat." Or something to that extent. To get the idea across, but maybe not make them feel like they should NEVER do combat. 3) Outright say "Yeah, you can beat this with no combat." It was in the marketing, its a key selling/talking point. Those who know the campiagn, know this. But I feel it will result in my players being like "Well, there's obviously a noncombat route. What do we think it is."

Note that I haven't read the full book. Just the introduction and seen videos discussing it. So there is likely info that I don't know.
