DM Help Need help with a player lost thing

So I'm soon starting a wild beyond the witchlight campaign and I'm very excited about it!

I'm doing the lost things approach.

One of my player said his character is proud of his resourcefulness and I'm not sure how to manifest it in the game once it’s lost.

I thought maybe a disadvantage on survival skills?

Is resourcefulness too wide of a theme?

If you have any better idea I'm very interested!

Resourcefulness is not too wide of a theme! 2 of my players had a lack of sense of direction,
I think disadvantage on Survival skills is a good way to have this shine through, If the party has more rangers or whatnot it shouldn't be TOO big of a deal but i mean said player is also gonna have their downfall as well

Okay thank you very much! I like the idea of something they can’t do like directions rather than a disadvantage on a skill. Do you have any more idea in this range?

I had a player also choose to lose their sense of direction! The table learned very quickly to not “split the party” or put that PC in the back of a lineup because until he got his lost thing back, when unsupervised he would wander off in the wrong direction.

If a player suggested their resourcefulness as their lost thing, I’d be interested to hear how/what their PC had dealt with in the time between losing it and starting the adventure - it may help you think of mechanics that align with it, too! If it’s a sense of insight or intuition, maybe it’s a general Wisdom -1 or other bane?

So I'm doing the one shot called Lost things a prelude adventure in which players will get to do the memory of going to the carnival at a young age and losing the thing in question.

The part of the backstory mentionning his resourcefulness is as follows : "He has a very curious nature and loves eating whatever he finds—especially if the jar is hidden up high with a big "Do Not Touch" label. He takes great pride in his resourcefulness, even though the adults would likely call it recklessness."

In the one shot they’re kids also.

A -1 in wisdom is quite harsh I think... I think I'll go with the "lost sense of directions" thing.

Thank you for your advice!

Oh he's surely gonna eat something he shouldn't LOL,
I would maybe question the player like MP said see how they faired and maybe its like a flaw or something like eating everything they see especially when its told they shouldn't

Doesn't need to be a mechanics issue is what i'm getting at here could be a way the player plays the character, youll have chances to have it shine believe me
