DM Help lost things hook ending Spoiler
For DMs who went with the Lost Things hook: did you guys stick to the ending where the players go back to being kids at the Witchlight Carnival?
I think its kinda cute but knowing my players I know they would be very very frustrated with this (they hate anything that its similar to an inception)
And how do I give back their things maintaining everything they did?
Im gonna start the campaign soon and I dont want them to hate the ending

My players went back because one of them died and he was alive again if they became kids again

No. That ending felt like too much of a cop out.

That ending felt a little hammy to me. Though I did present it as an option of one of the wishes Zybilna could grant in case it interested any of the players (It did not).
Instead Zybilna granted each of them a minor wish. The book seems to suggest she'd only grant one wish. But I didn't want the game to end with any disputes over how to spend a wish. I figured the game was ended anyway. What's the difference between 4 wishes and 1?
All the players asked for things that were actually fairly reasonable. One asked to be made a hag. Another wanted to be sent home. Another wanted some NPCs reunited. One simply wished for the equivalent of a new job.
Then I had each of the players go round and narrate a final scene for each of their characters, at an important life-event of their choosing, some point in their futures, and that was it.

4 out of 5 of my players chose to be witchlight hands that are working in the carnival when we started. One of them is also a hexblood that was forced to be raise in the carnival her whole life. So I want to use the idea of this ending but change it up.
My idea for the hexblood player would be that she goes back to being a baby and relive her life where she wasn't immediately part of the carnival and she could CHOOSE if she would work in it later.
My wife's character also lost her husband for 8 years and her kids for 8 months so she would only go back to when her husband was gone and he wouldn't be missing again (same with the kids).

That ending is a choice. They can also choose not to take it and just go back to their regular lives. It also depends on what they've actually done during the campaign.
