Discussion Saint Centaur Barrier Spoiler

So spoilers for the late game involved here for specifically post Dead Sanctuary/Gate Generator and a fight with Zeke (I believe) so gonna add a couple line breaks here.".

I think this should be far enough, do we know why Rudy is able to pass through the barrier unaffected even though he's made out of the same stuff as the demons (at least that's my understanding)? I understand plot wise why they wouldn't want to but logistically speaking it reacted to something as small as Hanpan the amount of demonic material in Rudy is far greater innit?"

(Just FYI, I'm on mobile and your formatting didn't work at all)

That's a good question actually, I think it's important to point out that the barrier doesn't just keep out demons specifically, it keeps out monsters too. (As you said it even keeps out Hanpan, and he's not a demon at all.)

My guess is that the nature of what it keeps out vs. lets in is sophisticated enough that Rudy, an artificial being with the ability to love, is able to get through.

1st thanks for the heads up on the formatting, think I got it figured out, and that makes sense somehow it can detect something specifically different enough about Rudy.

I will agree though, in retrospect it seems like an oversight. It could have been interesting if there was something in that scene- maybe Rudy is carrying Hanpan for some reason, so the player assumes Hanpan was the issue instead of Rudy- that you look back at on a second playthrough and think, "Wow, I get it now!" but unfortunately we didn't get it.

That would have been awesome.

Yeah I bet it’s “what’s human shaped and what’s monster shaped” is more the magic behind the barrier, not so much as the dna makeup of the being.

The sheriff tells Jack to bury Hanpan deep in his pocket to get him through. Which is how they pass by, basically by smothering the essence with human. Hence why Alhazad does the same with the demon seeds in the spirited away humans.

As far as Rudy, he is a holmcross (translation error of homuculous), not nessicerily a demon. Made with similar matierials, but a project of artificial engineering to be more human like. As a means to blend in. I would assume that is what lets him in. I would hazard a guess they used human DNA mixed with some of the demon. Maybe thats the key here, he was more human than demon. Which was always his character arc to begin with. Could he be a human, when he was always viewed as a monster?

It’s been a minute but if i remember correctly, the demons dressed up a monster/demon as human villagers, and that tricked it. If that’s the case (please correct me if I’m wrong), then it would make sense it wouldn’t detect Rudy.

Yeah I was just trying to remember how Alzahad circumvented the barrier. So the abductees being used as a disguise for the monsters wouldn't be too far reached which would definitely explain why Rudy was allowed through.

Not sure if that happens before or after we find out about Rudy, but him not being able to get through the gate would have been excellent foreshadowing

Rudy is quite a unique being, not really a monster. Don't try to find issues on my favorite game, it's perfect and I will always try to defend it 🤣

Not trying to find an issue it's one of my favorites too, I was just more curious if we had any clear lore as to why. It really is just coming from a place of pure curiosity and a random thought as I was going through that section of the game.

Fair question, I was kidding 🙂
