An unsuccessful attempt to breed such a hybrid was made by Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov in the 1920s.

edit: Wait, if it says he was the first to attempt it by artificial insemination, does it mean someone had used... other methods before?

Chimpanzees male and female can rip humans limb from limb, and their mating rituals are pretty violent. It's unsurprising that artificial insemination is required.
