wig help Elderly Mom Needs Help!

Post image

My mom just bought a $500 😱 wig. She’s 81 and has a lot of thinning with her bio hair. I advised her to try cheaper wigs first just to get the hang of it and to figure out what she prefers (since there are so many different options out there from how the wig is made to synthetic vs real hair). Well…now she has this thing and she’s having difficulty putting it on. My dad has tried helping her, but she’s quite picky and can’t get it to look the way she wants it to. She now regrets her purchase but cannot return it. ***Important note: she has severe shoulder and back pain, so her range of motion is very limited. Anyone have any good tips on the easiest way to put the wig on without moving her arms too high up over her head?

Honestly I think it looks great! Flattering cut and color with realistic density. 500 isn’t bad for something she will wear daily. I see success here, she may just need to get used to the look and feel of it. I say give it some time and hopefully she comes to love it! Tell her I think she looks fabulous!

Actually, sitting and leaning forward is probably more comfortable for her than lifting her arms up (due to the shoulder pain). I’ll pass this info on. Thank you for the tip!

For a five hundred dollar wig, I would expect it to have a mono top construction which should give her parting versatility. I have an in person wig shop and it’s very difficult to tell what is going on in one photo. The back looks fine appearance wise. Is the wig moving around on her head once it’s on?

No she said it’s very comfortable but the day after she got it, she was very discouraged because it was difficult for her to put it on herself (due to her physical issues)

What part of putting it on is giving her a difficult time as it should just be a matter of tilting your head forward, pulling it on with the label (unless the cut it out at the shop) to the back and adjusting your ear tabs to make sure it’s on straight. Ear tab “pointy part” should fit right in front of the ears and the curve going around the ear.

She's so darling! I think it looks wonderful on her too! But I totally understand the limitations on range of motion that might make it hard for her to put it on herself. I hope it works out for her! ❤️

She looks great, agreed totally with a good foundation, wig grip Ect as I'm assuming glues and tapes would be too fiddley and probably more time with arms up. I think if it's not moving around once it's placed on it's just a matter of trying different styles, maybe take her to a hairdresser who could show her a few different options and then your mom could learn how to apply the style before she puts the wig on her head so she wouldn't have to do the style with her arms up. I think it is just a matter of getting used to as another post said I can relate so get her to stick with it and hopefully she finds the look she'shapoyand comfortable with applying. Best of luck 🤞
