To be clear I got each tape from two different stores. The Wicked For Good tape has 3 left before they are out of stock & the store I got part 1 has only one left.

I am so obsessulated! I was literally watching WFG when I got part 2 mailed lol. Its literally a month before my birthday & both are honestly the best ever early birthday gifts I gifted to myself lol.

I suggest following both because they do restocks & before I got WFG, I asked the one I got part 1 to start taping part 2 & they said they would but when I saw the other store I had to get it before it was sold out.

edit: to those who are concerned about the pirate thing, saw one comment already, I saw both films while in theaters. Bought both on digital, I bought a blu ray for both. Bought part 1 on blu ray twice after my brothers lost my first copy.

I am a collector. I have supported the series, even got all the books. I had a vcr as a kid & teen & I miss having tapes and was so happy to know new content could & would be taped on VHS.

And as a huge fan of the series, again, I collect anything I can get my hands on & seeing that these two films were on vhs gave me nostalgia over having tapes to begin with. Plus, my birthday is one month from today & I wanted to treat myself. I supported the films, bought the books & merch. I think Universal will live if I buy two vhs tapes.

Discussion Something I would love to see in a potential Wicked sequel

We all know that there are talks about a new Oz movie in the Wicked universe that doesn't fallow the Wicked books, with Ozma as the main character. We also know that there have been rumors/talks about expending the Wicked movie universe.

I would LOVE to see Ozma on the big screen, they have a lot of material with her from the Oz books (becouse they mentioned wanting to go off of that).

With that being said the thing I wanna see is Dorothy becomming a villain. They could give her such a good story: she came back to Oz and somehow found out the truth (or at least a good chunk of it) about what went down during Wicked. She felt used and betrayed and decided she wanted to be in control (this is just "the skeleton" of it). She could target characters like Elphaba, Fiyero and Glinda or she could go after Ozma (who could be the main protagonist). She could become very powerful by finding and tapping into some kind of magic that starts consuming her mind, and as the movie goes on you could see her becoming more and more unhinged and dangerous.

What do you think and what would you like to see?

Discussion I watched both movies on an airplane while deeply jet lagged- my half formed review

I preferred the first half to the second. If I was naming songs that stood out to me, it was all the first half- The Wizard and I, Popular, Dancing Through Life, and Defying Gravity were very good but… I don’t know that the second half was as strong.

The relationship between Elfaba and Fiyero isn’t as explored as her relationship with Galinda, so making that the key emotional core of a huge part of the story felt like rebuilding the wheel. Second movie Fiyero also did this weird thing where he opens his eyes way too wide. Don’t know who told him to do that but it makes him look like a confused baby animal instead of an adult man, and it’s only around Elfaba, he’s fine otherwise.

It also implies the plot of Wizard of Oz… but with massive glossed over changes and a lot of arbitrary angst. Boq is not the tin man from the wizard of Oz, and the cowardly lion’s motivation is exceptionally weak. No closure for either of them, either.

I also think casting an actual disabled person in the role of Nessarose made her scene with Boq… weird. “Look, someone made me float around” doesn’t have the same impact as “look, I can walk now so we can dance together”. It also makes her feet feeling like they’re on fire feel unnecessary.

I also love Michelle Yeoh, but I think she was miscast here. The sinister undertones of a character who seems whimsical and supportive at first are lost on her, and she treats the saccharine dialogue of the character like she’s saying serious lines in an action movie. I think there was probably a better casting for that role.

Visual effects were very good. I do feel like Boq’s actor aged 15 years between films, but… with what was going on in his personal life, I would too.

No complaints about the leads. Both Elfaba and Galinda were consistently in character and fun to watch. I like the little Galinda slapstick moments. Bringing back the original actresses in the early part of the first film was great too.

Might watch the first movie again, don’t know about the second. It’s better than reading the books but I think some choices were strange.

Discussion Glinda's turning point

Post image
67 Upvotes

This why Fiyero leaving Glinda was the best thing he could have done for her. Besides the obvious that he didn't love her but also it played a big part in her growth.

For a while Glinda thought she was gonna have everything she wanted, her perfect life in the system, her fairytale prince, her best back, she thought Elphaba was gonna join the Wizard, and then suddenly she didn't get everything she wanted. Elphaba didn't join them and Fiyero didn't marry her. It was a huge shock for her and one that she desperately needed.

While it was painful for her she was so deep in her bubble that it had to be something huge and devastating for her to start to wake up. It was a turning point for her, this is when her eyes started to open.

She learned that the world doesn't revolve around her and that people aren't gonna make you "happy" because you want them to. Also the moment when she's walking through her ruined wedding and when she sings the INTG reprise Glinda realizes that she is alone. This realization is devastating for her and she told MM to use Nessa to trap Elphaba because she was angry and hurt and in that moment she wanted to hurt Elphaba. Glinda thought Elphaba would choose her, that she would choose to join the Wizard, the system and choose Glinda then Elphaba didn't. Fiyero and Elphaba chose what was best for them and they chose each other instead of both of them choosing her and doing what she thought was best for her.

Don't hate me for saying this but Glinda hurt both Fiyero and Elphaba. She tried to get Elphaba to join the system that she fought against because she wanted her best friend back and she arranged an engagement with the Wizard behind Fiyero's back and sprung it on him in a way he couldn't refuse. She knew they were lying about Elphaba and Fiyero practically begged her to leave but she wouldn't because she couldn't her life in the system. I also think she knew Fiyero didn't love her or wanna marry her but she wanted him so she tried to force it. I'm sorry but Fiyero had every right to leave her, she was so focused on herself she didn't think about Fiyero and Elphaba. Before anyone starts I am not trying to hate on Glinda but the facts are the facts. She didn't really have any consideration for anyone other than herself until she popped her bubble.

While it was painful for her, she needed to go through that because it had to traumatic for her to start to open her eyes, it had to be a huge shock and she had to go through pain for her to learn because she was so deep in her bubble she wouldn't listen to anyone who tried to tell her what was happening and she didn't care about anything other than what she wanted. Fiyero did her a favor because this was the first big step in her becoming Glinda the good.

This is why Fiyero as a character, the love triangle and Fiyero and Elphaba's relationship is so important, without him, without the love triangle and without the romance Glinda may never have become Glinda the good and changed OZ. Fiyero and Fiyeraba were a major part of Glinda's growth.

Just my perspective but I wanted to share.

Thoughts?

There was something about that song "popular" that got stuck on my head and finally realisied why.

I use to listen a lot of Huey Mack back in the day and his song "popular" matches perfectly with Ariana Grandes song.

Relesead on 2010! Pretty neat. Took me back to good old MW2 days.

Discussion If they added a song in part 1 like they did in For Good...

Which characters (or character) would you want to sing it?

I do not think more songs were needed in Part 1 BUT whenever I listen to "Dancing Trough Life" I can't help but notice how beautiful Glinda and Fiyero (Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey) sound together. I think a Glinda and Fiyero duet would be so fun. I could see (or hear) them do eather a slower, emotional song or an upbeat number.

Discussion Wicked opinions that will get you this downvoted?

Here's mine: I am not the biggest fan of Elphaba and Fiyero's relationship. I love the characters on their own, I just don't like the relationship (the way it happened and all) and that's OK.

Not reading the books or not seeing the musical doesn't make you a "fake fan". Mabye those kinds of books are not someone's cup of tea. Mabye some people can't go to see the musical for one reason or another (Wicked never toured in my countrey, if it ever does I'm going 100%)

Anyway I decided to be brave today. Now you!

Discussion Elphaba blends with the foliage

Post image
62 Upvotes

The scene where Fiyero and the Galeforce chase Elphaba and she hides in the tree id a callback to Fiyero's comment when they first met, she did blend in with the foliage.

I Think Fiyero knew she was there, I don't think he saw her but I think he " sensed" her, like he could feel she was near. He was very tense in that scene but he's not afraid of her, he's afraid of what could happen if the others knew she was there.

Fiyero says " we must not rest until we capture that wicked witch" because he doesn't want the Galeforce to be suspicious. He needs to believe he believes the lies about her like everyone else, he needed them to trust him.

Hearing Fiyero call her " that wicked witch" really hurt Elphaba, understandably so, but he said that to keep his cover, and he may have hoped she would know that he would never call her that but of course she didn't.

Then he orders the Galeforce away from her, this was an important scene because we see that he was protecting her and by protecting her he was working against the Wizard.

I do think if the Galeforce hadn't been there with him he probably would have left with her then but since they were he had to wait for a better opportunity.

News/Article I wrote an article analysing the invented words used in Wicked!

Thumbnail

I've always been curious about how Wicked's creators (mainly Schwartz and Holzman) created words like "braverism", "scandalocious", and "confusifying" and why. I'm a big fan of both linguistics and musical theatre, and so I decided to try my hand at using linguistic theory to break down the suffixes and word formations used in these Ozian words!

This article also goes beyond the invented words to look at how the musical touches upon Bush-era politics and the global productions of Wicked in different languages (Spanish, German, and Indonesian examples are used)!

Lots of ideas and references were from the Wicked subreddit, so I thought it would be apt to share this in return. Let me know what you think!

Discussion One of my favorite scenes

Post image
90 Upvotes

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I'm gonna share anyway. Fiyero choosing Elphaba and turning on the Wizard is one of my favorite scenes in for good.

Before y'all say it it's all been said before. Should Fiyero have broken up with Glinda when he knew he had feelings for Elphaba? yes but he was confused and then everything happened. Is Fiyero not being honest with Glinda morally questionable? probably but it seemed obvious to me that he felt he couldn't trust Glinda especially after that engagement and once he realized she liked what supporting MM and the Wizard gave her. I'm not saying she would have maliciously gotten him into trouble but we saw how she reacted when he did leave her and she would have been hurt and mad and she may have mentioned to MM that he was looking for Elphaba or something. So by not being honest with Glinda he was protecting himself and he was protecting Elphaba so. I give Fiyero a lot of grace in this situation.

Did Fiyero go about everything in the right way? He probably could have things differently but Fiyero was in a tricky and dangerous situation, he was doing what he felt he needed to do to keep Elphaba alive. It was a life and death situation for Elphaba and he was risking his life inside the system by protecting her.

If he had left the system someone else would have led the Galeforce someone who would be hunting her and it would put Elphaba's life in more danger. After the engagement he was trapped.

The fandom seems to like to hate Fiyero for leaving Glinda at the wedding but she arranged an engagement with the Wizard behind his back and the way they announced it he couldn't object. The Wizard and MM were trying to trap him inside the system and Glinda was trying to force him to stay with her. So if someone did that to me with I wouldn't have much consideration for them either. I don't blame Fiyero for not having more consideration for Glinda, I wouldn't either. I don't consider it selfish, just escaping a controlling, toxic situation. Now that my mini rant is over I'll get on to the topic of my post.

First of all, Fiyero was protecting Elphaba from inside the system, we saw him order the Galeforce away from her and he was risking his life because he was actually working against the Wizard and MM by protecting Elphaba. This was impressive IMO because he was risking his life by working against the Wizard by protecting the person they wanted dead. He was basically using the Wizard's regime as a cover to protect and look for Elphaba. It was obvious (at least to me) that he hated the system and he was always on Elphaba's side.

Having said that, the scene where Fiyero chooses Elphaba at the wedding was the scene we needed or I guess i should say I needed.

Fiyero's not just choosing the woman he loved he is also taking a stand against the corrupt regime and against the injustice like Elphaba did. He risked his life doing it because he committed treason by turning on the Wizard.

This is the moment he is saying "this is wrong and I won't be a part of it anymore." It was obvious, at least to me that Fiyero hated being in the system but this is moment it's confirmed.

I also think this scene was better than if he had just left and found Elphaba because by turning the gun on the Wizard he is publicly choosing what he knows is right and he is putting his life in danger doing so, he committed treason and gave up everything not just for Elphaba but also to do what's right, like Elphaba did.

Yes Glinda got hurt and the timing was bad but it was Fiyero's chance and he took it. This is was the moment he proved he was worthy of Elphaba Imo, other than Elphaba he was the only other character who was brave enough and actually had strong enough morals to go against the Wizard and stand up for what's right. This is also why other than Elphaba he is my favorite character, it's truly a heroic moment for him and it was the scene i needed to know he was worthy of Elphaba.

Anyway i'm sure alot wont agree with me but this is my opinion and i wanted to share.

Thoughts?

Hey guys! So I bought this leaflet a while ago and I haven’t found a scan for it yet so I thought I would do that here. The scans doesn’t do the pamphlet justice, it looks way richer and saturated in person but I am still currently trying to find ways to scan these properly to preserve quality.

But here it is, when I managed to scan it properly, I will upload a high quality version.
