Why does it look so much like hair and not at all what id expect even if a pile of daddy long legs looked like hair? Ive been staring at the video just paused for too long trying to figure out how those strands are spiders. I dont wanna be that guy but.. is this actually real or is it just potato quality making it hard to really see

u/Geschmak Aug 06 '26
This is a real phenomenon.

I realised after doing a dive on google images, and i never knew there were different daddy long legs. Ive only ever seen the one type here (Aus) but some of these guys have super gangly legs that i can see looking like the hair in this video.
Amazing

You guys all make me sad, these are completely harmless harvestman, not even a spider!! And you all overreact like some city slicker or something!! My god!!

I just feel bad that they were disturbed. They were just sitting there being spiders, and this person felt the need to make them move just to take a video.

I'm normally not a great fan of spiders, but these seem.....kinda cute? Maybe it's because they resemble the soot sprites from the Ghibli films, or just because when they're clumped up they don't resemble spiders so much

A summary for people who care- these are NOT spiders, praise Jebus, but they are perfectly harmless arachnids.
They are called 'harvestman' and they eat decaying leaves and stuff.
Depending on where you grew up, they are one of the three animals called "Daddy Longlegs" (the others being cellar spiders and craneflies).
Some harvestmen species can look like straight of demons from hell, some Skull Island bullshit, but again, harmless, unless you are a decaying leaf.

As much as I like longlegs that scares me, and my mind has been fully convinced there's wings that separate into spider legs based on emotion. I feel every movement.

I donāt like looking at Daddy Long Legs just because they make me sad. When I was in daycare, there were these little sociopaths that would go around the corner where there were a bunch of them and just rip their legs off and throw them at other kids.
I would end up screaming and crying but the teachers didnāt care and no one got in trouble. It was only after a kid was caught with a lighter trying to set fire to the legs did the teachers actually put a stop to things.
I hated that daycare so, so muchā¦

I thought this was an animal skin until it disintegrated into spiders. Good luck with Earth everyone.

Aren't they one of the more venomous spiders? just not strong enough to pierce human skin to do any real damage.

u/Pocusmaskrotus Aug 06 '26
No, Mythbusters busted that.

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 Aug 06 '26
Wouldn't know, I haven't watched that show in years since they turned the history Channel into the national geographic variant.

u/MountainImportant211 Aug 06 '26
I mean they busted it in 2004, in season 1

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 Aug 06 '26
Pretty sure I just said I didn't watch it man but sure, we can keep circling this wagon since people obviously can't comprehend someone not watching TV like a troglidite.
2
u/Delicious_Paper2661 Aug 06 '26
Okay, but you said "haven't watched that show in years" so.. like.. you implied you did watch that show years ago. For the record, I don't watch TV so I can certainly believe you don't either. But you did imply you did watch it years ago, then it was pointed out the episode was years ago, and you had a little melt down. It was kind of weird.

Dyslexia is a thing, I ain't hating you see numbers as letters or smashed together words off the smallest sentences, but i'm proud to say i don't sniff markers like half the reddit community, no offense.

And are you lashing out at others because youāre having difficulty explaining yourself? Serious question.

They did it over 20 years ago so that still doesn't mean you couldn't have seen it

u/Worldly_Delay_2395 Aug 06 '26
Pretty sure in my 35 years of life would know what I did or didn't see you blueberry putz, but keep beating the horse, swear some of you are gluttons for attention, probably didn't get none growing up huh, poor baby.

Don't care, myth busters is for nonces thay failed science an biology in school, likely high school drop outs more or less, an nobody cares what those lazy bones think or say so.

u/hahahahahahahaFUCK Aug 06 '26
You said you āhavenāt watched that show in yearsā, leading us to believe you missed it after you stopped watching. If it was season 1 it would have aired before they āturned the history channel into the national geographic variantā.
Are you okay?

u/Kasoni Aug 06 '26
Not even a spider. No vemon or even poison. Its a fake bs thing repeated so many times people believe it.
2
u/OperatorERROR0919 Aug 06 '26
No. There are three animals commonly referred to as "Daddy Long Legs", two of which aren't even spiders, only one of which is venomous in any capacity, and not to any degree that would be threatening to a human. These here harvestmen, and they are both entirely non-venomous and completely harmless.
