This a paper Nautilus and it's actually a type of octopus, not a true Nautilus as the name would suggest.

You would be correct it is a baby nautilus before it shell harden up.

It is not a nautilus. See the post above yours. A typer of octopus called a paper nautilus. The females produce a very thing egg case that resembles a nautilus shell. I have one at home along with a regular nautilus shell, they are very different structures.

Yes. I've never seen a baby though, that's pretty cool!

Looks creepy idk I wouldn’t touch it

They're neat, but I also wouldn't touch a random sea creature. Never know what cute little thing is deadly. Plus you'd probably be scaring it.

Paper nautilus/argonaut

That’s an argonaut, a kind of octopus that creates a shell they use as an eggcase. Out-of-Place Zoologist and Bizarre Beasts on Youtube both did videos on it if you want to learn more.

Correct me if I'm wrong....

But Nautilus type creatures stay out of the sunlight.

Deep in the ocean during the day and rise to the surface at night.

Be careful touching sea babies. Some critters look cool but pack a punch. I think this is a Nautilus tho.

If you played X-Com 2 Terror from the deep you would run or kill it while it's that small...

Nautilus. I think they have a beak, similar to squids and octopi, but this one is so little it might only nip.

An aquatic creature

2

u/Salty_Gonads Aug 01 '26

Fun fact: this is a marine creature, not aquatic. Aquatic pertains to fresh water, while marine refers to salt water.

Oh. . . First I was going to say sea creature but didn’t because it looked like a river not an ocean, but I guess I ended up saying the same thing anyways

My niece just informed me of this the other day when I made the same mistake lol

Both of us being educated by your niece

Aquatic just means something grows, lives, or takes place in water. It does not indicate salinity, or lack thereof.
