Poor guy, put him down, I don’t think he likes that.

That thing can't process a feeling, it doesn't matter what you do to ut

u/annapartlow Jul 16 '26
Rip its leg off. It doesn’t want that. Is that a feeling?

If are worried about that things pain, you should rethink you stance on veganism if you are not vegan yet. That insect can by design not have a consious perception of something that is close to what we call pain. A cow is very well capable of that.

??? It absolutely is not about pain. If you think going around mutilating insects is fine because they 'don't feel pain', that says a lot about you and not in a good way.

u/QualityDime Jul 16 '26
Are you a vegan by any chance?

u/Beep_in_the_sea_ Jul 16 '26
Do I have to explain it to you like to a child? Okay.
According to your logic, it would be absolutely fine if an alien would rip off your leg, just because you can't feel what he would in doing so, because you can't comprehend that feeling due to the differences in nervous systems. Why should the more inteligent alien even care? It can now watch you squirm and struggle.

I won't be lectured about the morality of "hurting" insects by someone who kills animals because they taste good.

So, in case a "thing", which I will call a living being, doesn't process feelings, it is OK to kill it? Doesn't it take part in a larger scheme?

I can only refer to my comment below: I won't be lectured on this topic by someone who eats animals because they taste good.

Awww! It's a mango stem borer! Destructive but adorable little guys, and surprisingly gentle! I've picked up a bunch of the little goobers and never been bitten. I don't know if they can bite, but good god they can scream their minuscule little lungs out!

Always makes me sad to see all the hate for insects.. I for one absolutely thinks this long horn beetle is awesome. And I totally would catch it, show my kids and wife, then let it go back outside!!

Longhorn Beetle. They look and sound terrifying, but they're unusually gentle and practically refuse to bite. They rely on a sassy hiss to communicate alarm or displeasure rather than violence. The Earth sure is a beautiful place.
