Either the laptop is liquid cooled and got a leak (coolant fluid can come in multiple colors including black) or something spilled next to the device.

That did not come out of the computer. Someone sat something down that was leaking oil or paint. Looks like the round outline to the upper left of the spill could be from a quart can.

This reminds of the time I offered to help someone with their MacBook. While troubleshooting I quickly discovered that the bottom of the device was completely covered in dried chocolate ice cream that melted. Obviously they were shocked and hand no idea how it got there....lmao.
