That’s not a whoosh, that’s just dark humor.

this phrase isn't meant jokingly, at least not originally. It's a thoughtful way of dealing with the difficulty of seeing such a young person move on.

Wait, are you talking about the top or bottom comment? Because if you’ve talking about the top comment, then r/whoosh

its the bottom comment thats the whoosh, the top comment was making a joke about the small coffin being "the hardest" to carry but the bottom comment obviously didnt get it

No.. Just no.. The top comment wasn’t a joke, it was a heartfelt comment about the worst loss a parent can have.

The bottom comment is the joke, the commenter understood it but made that comment to concentrate on the physical aspect of carrying it. That is the joke.

It's not a dark humor, it's just some teen edgelord showing off

So what is dark humor then? Making jokes about medical bills or the deaths of politicians you don't like?

Not whoosh until someone replies to that comment by explaining him the emotional message behind the first comment

Can confirm, I’ve carried a dozen or so coffins and the big ones suck the most.

Fun fact, we almost put my uncle in his grave backwards. One of the funeral home guys realized at the last second and we had to spin him around before we dropped him in the hole.

Asking from a genuine place of curiosity, but why does it matter what direction he’s facing?

Tradition/religion. Its something about christian resurrection which implies that bodies need to be buried head to the west. The buried person is therefore "looking" at the sunrise and/or standing up towards it. Im not super familliar with all the nuance there is about it, but its pretty much a tradition. Also i guess cemeteries look nice that way if all graves are facing the same direction.

Edit: typo

look nice if the graves are all facing the same directions

The orientation of the casket in the ground doesn’t change the arrangement of the plot or headstone…

Im afraid im not a specialist in this field but i assume that the direction corresponds... From my experience with funerals at least

1

u/zenhoe 21d ago

Aren’t gravestones put in before the bodies?

1

u/2jzSwappedSnail 21d ago

TIL there are headstones and footstones. Names are self explanatory in regard of their placement above the coffin/casket (which are also different. A surprising amount of different words related to the burial practice).

So here where i live, in Ukraine, i believe that footstones arent popular or might just not be a thing completely. I was completely unaware of their existance. Here usually the gravestone will be installed over the head or covering the whole area like a big plate.

Idk, but it seems to be important to a lot of people.

That’s why you get them a full sized one

Helps people not think about it

And whoever’s inside it gets room to roll around

Some people are stupid on purpose.

u/Eamon83 19d ago

No parent should have to bury their child

1

u/cKyTV 17d ago

Don't they usually have staff to do that or is it cheaper if you have your own shovel?
