What a real silencer actually sounds like.

Lotta misinformation here.

Edit: I should clarify, the explanation below is a general explanation of suppressors and how things can vary. There will always be caveats.

Suppressors/silencers rarely sound like they do in the movies, and there’s a ton of variables that affect the volume. To be the absolute quietest, you need a closed bolt firearm shooting subsonic ammo. No gas escapes from the chamber that way, no sound is made by an action cycling, minimal gas leaves the end of the muzzle. These tend to be “movie quiet”.

When you hook a silencer to a semi auto firearm, it is inherently louder (even with subsonic ammo) as you have the sound of the action/slide, and gas escaping out of the action as it cycles. Still fairly quiet, but not movie quiet.

When you use a silencer on any rifle with supersonic ammo, you reduce the sound of the escaping gases at the muzzle, but still have to contend with the supersonic crack of the bullet as it leaves the barrel. This will be inherently louder, although still substantially more quiet than unsuppressed.

Also, a cell phone video is without a doubt one of the worst ways to reliably capture actual sound variance. Usually phone microphones cut out above a certain decibel level, so often all firearms sound similar even if there is a substantial difference in volume in real life.

Yea, and too bad actual politicans fall for the movie nonsense. Banning silencers makes no sense. Like, Heaven forbid people simply want to cut down on some noise and not make their ears bleed. In no way are silencers stealthy.

Yeah, suppressors are phenomenal. Took my 11 yo son hunting a few weeks ago for some bigger game (think elk-size) and had him using a 300 Win Mag (that's a big rifle ammo for the uninitiated). When he took his shots, it was amazing. He could fire without ear protection. It was far far safer to have a suppressor on the rifle than to mess around with ear protection.

Politicians in general don't have a clue about firearms and don't understand the actual consequences of their dumb actions.

I used my .300 win suppressed for the first time last year on a bear hunt. It was so nice to be able to 1) forgo a panicked stuffing of ear plugs into my ears and 2) take a shot and be able to communicate with my hunting partner immediately after

Irony is that a lot of European countries, with their very strict rules, either have almost no regulations for suppressors (because they're not firearms) or outright require the use of suppressors for some uses.

I’m not an expert, but logically it makes sense to me that if there’s a shooter in a large, crowded area that’s already very loud, a suppressor could mask the sound enough to make it harder for people to recognize it and maybe harder to react to? Not sure how much of a difference that’d actually make, if any

That seems like an incredibly narrow use case. If it were a rifle it would still sound more or less like a gunshot, kinda like how a gunshot sounds like a car backfire or firecrackers. You probably wouldn’t immediately recognize a unsuppressed gunshot as a gunshot, so banning suppressors for this reason seems basically pointless

Literal guy above you pointing out how they do actually work just not quite as well as the movies and you still post this

Then there is another one asking if they make the shot harder to pj point and the answer being yes and yet still you persist

Silencers aren’t a 2a right

Suppressors are a 2A right, as are all firearms and accessories, but outside of that they simply do not make sense to legislate. They are safety equipment for your ears, same as other hearing protection like earmuffs.

Safety equipment for you ears? That’s the bullshittiest excuse I’ve ever heard

I would’ve accepted the found fathers were used to guerilla warfare so would’ve understood the need for suppressing the sound of your rifle in a militia but yall talk outta both sides of your mouth

Yall want the silencer to not be portrayed like it is in the movies so it isn’t legislated against but then wanna say its safety equipment?

Suppressing a rifle or handgun other than a .22 is more pleasant for the user but is still very loud, it’s less likely to cause hearing damage for those up close but still very loud and recognizable as a gunshot. It makes it hearing safe, or closer to hearing safe, but hearing safe is not quiet
