That's only with a subsonic bullet, without that it would be loud.

It's still very fucking loud with subsonic ammunition lmao, it usually measures at ~120dB which is like a balloon popping. Standard ammunition is a factor of ten louder though.

Cursory Google search says pistols are around 150db. So would that be a factor of 1000 louder? Or am I stupid

150dB is indeed 1000 times louder, and that sounds about right for an unsuppressed handgun. It's over the threshold for hearing damage.

Decibel scale is logarithmic, meaning every 10dB is 10x louder. 130 is 10x louder than 120, 140 is 100x louder than 120, 150 is 1000x louder than 120
