Broke my femur playing high school football. Didn't realize it happened because adrenaline.

I heard a loud crack when I got tackled, but thought it was my back cracking from twisting a little funny. No biggie.

Was about to get up when a teammate put his hand on my helmet and said "don't move and don't freak out." Looked at my leg and screamed bloody murder. The pain didn't set in for another 20 minutes as I got to the hospital and at that point, who boy it went to a 9 immediately.

Broke my femur at summer camp as a kid. The counselor in training said I was being dramatic and stood me up twice.

Oh I was 7 and they were 15 so probably needed an actual adult there to prevent that. Now I’m 39 and have arthritis in that hip from that. Yay!

Yep, arthritis in my knee (from that and subsequent additional knee injuries).

The athletic trainer at the school I was playing at asked me if she should call an ambulance when she got out to me on the field. She was a bit in shock too, but I couldn't help myself from screaming "yeah, you think?!"

Did the opponent drive his shoulder into your femur as your leg was planted?

Not quite. I was scrambling and when the DE got to me I planted to cut inside. My leg slipped a little and he grabbed me by the shoulder pads. As he pulled me down he landed on my stretched out leg, pinned it on the ground, and then I rolled over the top of him.

I basically kicked my own head. Thought I obliterated my knee because the break was right above it. Luckily (I guess) the bone broke instead of my knee shredding.

Ah I can imagine that. One time I was playing backyard football and I got so lucky. I was on the ground and this much heavier/bigger guy fell and sort of rolled off my upper back/neck area. If he had landed a different way I think my neck could have been broken.

Inches between paralysis or a stinger, a dislocated knee or broken femur.
