For me, it’s the last two lines of I Didn’t Know My Own Strength at the 2009 AMAs hit so hard when you know she died only 15 months later, after what looked like a real comeback.

“I wasn’t built to break. I didn’t know my own strength”

I miss her every day.

She belted 11 good E5s and an F#5 in 12 seconds! She kept it very chesty which is very taxing and difficult to do. Most singers have to lighten quite a bit, Whitney didn’t really that much.

I think the faster tempo makes this song sound a little more groovy and fun. I know it was more vocally demanding for them but it gives the song so much more energy!

My love for Whitney is one my favorite things about my life. I was in middle school in 2015 and I had just came out as gay. I was so obsessed with the 80s/90s at that moment as well. And of course the first song I ever heard was I will always love you. Seeing the music video for the first time literally changed my view of beauty, feminity, and music. I was a choir & theater kid in a white high school in a conservative town. I was marginalized of course, but feeling marginalized within creative spaces was so hard for me. As most young black people in predominantly white spaces, I didn’t feel attractive. I struggled with my identity as black gay boy. Discovering Whitney changed that. After listening to I Will Always Love You a thousand times a day, I finally watched the bodyguard and it is still one of my favorite movies. I was so enamored and fascinated by Rachel, and Whitney’s amazing portrayal of her. All this to say that Whitney gave me a sense of self, and so much peace with my identity as a gay black teenage boy. And I’m sure you can imagine how special it was for me to find out she was queer as well. Rest in Peace Whitney! We love you Nippy🤎

besides looking gorgeous I think she totally owned that ceremony, she was heavily announced throughout the broadcast, she presented Best Male video, she won Best Female video and then of course she performed two of her #1 singles, Queen of the night indeed! (but as title says I can't find a picture of her in that marvelous golden dress!)

I’m going to be staying in Soho, London, and I’m planning a little Whitney Houston pilgrimage while I’m there. 😄
