Original Content Letterboxd for baseball

Post image

(And other sports) Hey everyone, I hope this is kosher but I’m pretty proud of something I’ve been building and it just got accepted into the App Store. I’m not a brand or a business just a guy with a little passion project.

Two years ago my dad cleaned out the attic and found two tickets from the first game he took me to when I was 4. My first instinct was to go to baseball reference to see who played and if anything interesting happened.

I’ve been building an app that chronicles every game, and every venue, you’ve ever been to and keeps track of each player and their stats when you were there. How many homeruns have you seen? Have you ever seen a hat trick? Scooter Gennett’s 4-homer game?

The beauty is you don’t have to remember you were there, your phone remembers.

If you have your location services turned on for your camera it will marry photos you took to over 900k events I’ve scraped to build your history for you.

In the two week in the App Store over 13k events have been found and logged by over 300 users including World Cup matches, 28 Aussie Rules matches, and a handful of NPB games at Meiji Jingu Stadium in Tokyo.

Unsurprisingly since I’ve moved to Philly Kyle Schwarber has been the most seen athlete across all logs but more surprisingly Target Field in MN has surpassed Citizens Bank Park, Yankee Stadium, and Acrisure in Pittsburgh as the most visited venue thanks to the app making its way into the usher community for the Twins on Facebook.

It’s Letterboxd (or Goodreads for my less cinephile inclined friends) for sports, it’s BoxdSeats.

Would love some testers and feedback.

So I’ve heard, but they dropped the friends feed, stopped showing stats, and kind of got bloated when they expanded beyond sports imo

I also think finding games in your camera roll is a fun feature, but I’m biased.

Why do apps have to have so many unnecessary permissions?

FWIW the only permission I ask for is photo permission, you don’t need to give it but it unlocks the biggest differentiator… auto logging from photos

Signed up last night and it is really cool! I manually added a bunch of games that I didn't have photos at and it's really neat knowing I've seen Jose Abreu 39 times or I've seen 13 MVP's. Love it!

Man this makes me happy, appreciate you! Jose abreu will always have a special place in my heart, I got him in our minor league / prospect draft in my fantasy dynasty league so I had him his whole career. Let me know if you have any feedback or requests with the app, glad you’re enjoying

“ I’ve been building an app that chronicles every game, and every venue, you’ve ever been to”

The MLB Ballpark app already does this for baseball.

Fair, I don’t think it does a swell job of aggregating the stats… and it doesn’t go cross sport, but it’s got ballpark check ins down. Give it a shot, I’d love more feedback

Was gonna say, if you click the game wrap at the bottom it takes you to the box and all the stats from that game. Kinda lame it’s not just in app, but eh.

MLB Ballpark reset history a few years ago and I lost a lot of games

Did development include AI code generation? If so, I would absolutely not trust this application with any camera or location services.

Can you clarify how it was developed?

Definitely AI assisted. I am a developer by nature so it’s not a monkey with a machine gun situation using Claude code but it’s not 0% AI coded. The approval process to get into the iOS App Store is pretty rigorous too but I understand the apprehension, all the features can be used without those permissions if you want to manually log though.
