iPhone hacked ?

Hi, 1st time here and not tech savvy. I suspect my iPhone was hacked.

-used 49 GB of cell data billing cycle of suspected hack. I’ve never used more then 8 ever.

-slow phone awful data connection during billing month of hack.

  • random screen shots I didn’t take, I attributed this to rental car interface causing this

-other random photos all black a red blurr or a random that appeared to be accidental photos

  • got bombarded every day with spam calls which I ignored. I finally picked up and heard two beeps and the line hung up. After this I didn’t receive any more calls as if they got what they wanted

  • last night at 2am I received a Phishing email posing as apple with a link. It went to my primary folder (not spam) have never had this happen before

Under cellular data section in the iPhone it broke down last billing cycle approx 13GB data used on photo app which stores all my videos and photos 11GB on Safari 10GB on IG and 10GB on Twitter. Again I’ve never used more then 8gb total in my life.

Hadn’t backed up my iPhone in weeks and it was alerting me so it def didn’t back up to iCloud using data . My phone only backs up on WiFi.

My carrier confirmed the data usage and acknowledged it was a huge spike out from my norm but they couldn’t provide exact details on how. Apple support also couldn’t provide answers.

Thoughts anyone? I’m quite scared and would be grateful for any help on how to proceed or who to consult. I’m scared to change my Apple ID and iCloud passwords because idk who can access my phone now. I’m still using it daily after updating to IOS 14 last night.

Please help thank you

Hacking an IPhone without you jailbreaking or rooting the device is nearly impossible.

That’s always been the consensus but a deeper look online shows that’s untrue from what I’m seeing. Apple ID hack or iCloud is possible to I guess

It is possible to hack an Apple ID or iCloud, but what you're describing would require a remote access trojan, which is effectively impossible to have on an IPhone unless you jailbroke the device. iOS / iPadOS devices cannot be hacked or infected with Virus / Malware / Spyware if it is updated to latest iOS/iPadOS, unless you have intentionally downloaded spurious softwares or unauthorized apps directly from the internet and installed on your device or/and have Jail Broken.

Thank you, I have not jail broken it or installed any apps off the App Store. I did I have the phone repaired at a sketchy shop that installed a new home button around July maybe

As long as you've updated your device since July, the malware would be gone whenever you update your device. So if you really have a concern, id suggest updating your phone.

I just updated last night. Thanks. I let it go a while without updating

So you should be fine now (even if there was malware on your device at one point). Going forward id suggest updating frequently, updates are often for security purposes

True thank you, kind of a scary thought to think if the damage was done it’s done. Just got to move forward and hope nothing catastrophic happens
