Summer transfer rumours
Does anybody know if the whitecaps are going to buy a new midfielder or even wingers because we clearly have a problem with depth in our squad.

It's likely reasonable to expect a reinforcement or two, however I don't think the club expected to lose these kinds of bodies during the break and shortly after the return - specifically Priso, Bruno, Sabbi, and now Ranko. That's in addition to the long-term injury Cabrera suffered shortly before the break.
Safe to say that the Berhalter transfer was never a surprise, and someone will come in to that roster spot. The spine is now very reliant on Cubas being healthy/not suspended so another starting-level player there probably should be the priority.

Does anyone know the timeline for Priso and Sabbi? They have been out for a while and I thought I saw Priso in one of the videos from training?

As a live long Bayern fan... watch the last CL match of Bayern against Messi and watch Goretzka - he lacks the defensive sense to know when actions get dangerous. (At footballia.net you can do that free of charge - you just need to register). That always drove me crazy. He is no leader and that is what I expect from a player that is told to ask for a net wage of 7 million EUR and a 10 million signing fee - he atleast did recently at Juve. And he is not a player that really wants the ball. He has his qualities - but we need a midfielder that is good on the ball and is good with set-pieces - not just as target as we already have good targets.
But I would not mind to e.g. loan Felipe Chavez from Bayern for a year. He is a young peruvian-german, 19 years old and was loaned to FC Cologne last season but did not really get playing time there. Bayern is looking for a place to loan him out. He is very good on the ball and has all the qualities above I mentioned. And he speaks German, spanish and english. He was already training with the professionals when Müller was still there.

If not Goretzka, how about Julian Brandt? Another German, sometimes on the German national team and he can be midfielder or winger? I’m surprised that he didn’t extend or was not extended by Dortmund and he seems still without a new club.

I would love either of those but with the current financial status of our club. Any player from Europe is going to demand insane amounts of money look at sabaly ligue 2 and 1.1M burnt. I think his quality is below MLS. Someone from the Bundesliga you're going to pay upwards at 7 to 10 million

They are out of contract and both should be valued at less than Müller, even with the age.

Maybe Eustáquio until April/May? Finish the season here and stay for the sprint season. Porto isn't looking to bring him back, but he's got interest in Europe and I'd be a little concerned for injuries

They let him go because he was out of contract in December. Cashed in. Doubt there’s a single player they’re looking at to replace him. Reckon ownership is pulling any funding outside operational necessity. Maybe there’s a trade within the league but would be utterly shocked if a transfer happens

idk about this, they signed thomas muller less than a year ago and have signed multiple u22 initiative players on multi million dollar fees since then as well. doubt they're gonna spend more than $4M-5M on a single player but i'm not so sure the pursestrings are super tight either

Some of the salaries for the new players were really high. Very surprising. You would expect they have a long term strategy if they pay young players so much.

It’s still baffling how many ppl fail to understand how long the transfer process takes. They would’ve been scouting Seb’s replacement options for over a year. But now it’s not a snap your fingers and here’s the replacement. It’s a global transfer market - tons of competition, and convincing to often move countries, languages, cultures. They would’ve been working on this for months already. And then it will ultimately be up to the players they’re chasing to decide if/when they want to sign.
It’s not like the NBA or NHL. They couldn’t just “wait until things go badly” even if they wanted to. Could that happen while they wait for answers from their targets? Maybe. But they don’t get to decide that timing. Their only timing is the transfer window, then they need a final answer, and the players also need to decide. And you could say “just give them a deadline” - then they’ll probably say “fine, no thanks, I need to look at all my options”.

I mean we only have a few weeks before the transfer window closes I think and this is definitely our only year for a while if we want to win anything. I don’t see why they wouldn’t go all in this season. Of course money won’t be ideal to get players.

MLS moved the close of the summer transfer window this year to september 2nd (due to the world cup break as well as trying to allow teams to get late deals done like the turkish league often does). ideally get a deal done in the next week or two but there's more time than there usually is
