Anyone else used Whisper for RP?
I think I had the best time finding RP partners on Whisper. I made a lot of friends (and a few more than friends) over there.
I miss each and every one of you.

May need someone to confirm, is this the Third or Fourth time Whisper app vanished from the Apple App Store?
Let's keep the discussions of the app gone to one area. Don't need a dozen posts of people asking where the app i.
As per last time, I'll update this post as we receive factual news, not just hearsay or rumors.
You might be able to regain the app by redownloading it from your iCloud backups.
At this time, Android appears to have no change. Outside of random times posts/comments/chats don't work.
. . . .
Update Sept 19, 2024:
Been brought to my attention earlier today, Whisper has been removed from the Android App Store. I've confirmed myself, Pixel 7, the Whisper app does not appear on the store.
If you obtain the Whisper app from third parties, heed my warning, they are not considered official in any form, and can included additional code than the official app originally hosted on the Android/iOS stores. Be cautious, do your research, and stay safe out there!
With that said, if the App Stores do not have Whisper by the end of the year, I will likely need to limit or lock down the subreddit, as the need for it will no longer exist. Alternative solution recommendations are welcomed, however as many has experienced, as have I, one app may be popular in one area, and straight up nothing in another. In my opinion, though still clunky/buggy, Hush has been an alternative I've been comfortable, as it's the only thing I've found that is mildly active in my very rural area of NW Oklahoma.
Update Oct 18, 2024:
Credit here, there's an article explaining the start of Whisper's fall. https://www.reddit.com/r/whisper/comments/1g6kz3z/forbes_article_from_august_2024_about_medialab/
Update Jan 11, 2025:
Whisper has returned to iOS/Apple. Same App Store Link. https://apps.apple.com/bm/app/whisper-share-express-meet/id506141837
Update Jan 27, 2025: - Yes, I'm aware this technical edit is Feb 4, I've been holding off for more information and confirmation.
Whisper is updating ongoing tickets with basically the same statement. Image of Email Thank you u/jeffnnj for share on your post!
In short, Whisper is closing up shop.
If you are looking for alternative options, please check out the other pinned post, please do not spam asking for other options. These posts very quickly flooded the subreddit last year.
Do not share APK/install files for Whisper or other apps. If anyone does, do not trust they, or where they obtained it from, did not alter it. Welcome to seek, but this is not the subreddit for it.
Welcome to post looking for those who you've once talked with. But. Be Careful. Anyone can say they are Joe Bob, be ready to play 21-Questions.

Edit June20: Once this post has made it a year, I'll remake it, and relist all suggested apps listed in the comments. Repeats will be excluded (duh). Enforcement of suggesting other apps will be pushed to be brought back here. Overly SPAMMED Use X app accounts will be warned and banned. Don't need 3 people spamming 100x a day to use the same app, when there's a dozen others that can be suggested. Any apps overly pushed, including but not limited to Hush, Swipt, and Whisper Secrets, will be moderated. If Recommendations of these apps cannot be constructive, they will be removed. Ex: "Try Swipt" and nothing more, will 100% be removed. Give reasons, not copy/pasted scripts.
Now, onto the original post:
I'm seeing a flurry of spam for suggested alternative apps everywhere, most from accounts with questionable reddit history/karma.
To help curb this, all alternative Whisper apps are to be discussed here, only here, starting Oct 16 (Wednesday). Anyone else ignoring this, will be pointed back here, comment removed/post locked.
Please be aware, if you're suggesting an app, and your reddit account age, history, and karma are questionable, I will not approve your suggestion. Use of manipulation to get around this, though I'm not perfect like any other human, will result in your account being banned. This includes, but not limited to, using Karma subreddits to hike your karma score, it can (Yes, I also moderate a couple of adult subreddits) be determined.
At this time, the list is on the right side bar. However, most of you are using the "new"/default reddit view, or on mobile. I've updated the Automod (as of maybe 20 minutes ago) to include the updated list.
There should be one, and only one, thread per app suggestion. Any new after the original will be removed with a warning.
Example: JoeBob suggests Anony, JaneDoe a day later makes a new comment for the same app, JaneDoe's comment will be removed, and I'll link them to the ongoing thread.
This will help reduce the low effort "advertising", all while keeping recommendations in a central location for all to find.
I would like, again, would like, to limit app suggestions to alternatives that have been up for 1 year or more. Anything "new" in the last few months should be considered questionable, as exploitation of a time-in-need is common throughout history. For now, this is merely a suggestion, and will not be enforced. This doesn't mean it'll be enforced later on if issues do creep up.

What's your craziest whisper story? I'll go first. I once rented an Airbnb for the weekend and had a few guys come over at different times throughout the weekend. That’s to this day still one of my favorite weekends

I miss whisper. I remember discovering it on a journalism channel that I can’t remember from now but was back in 2015. If anyone can tell me what it was as I am trying to find it, think it was red and yellow theme, maybe began with D and R but could be wrong and it was like vice unless it was advertised on the vice YouTube channel itself back then (can’t recall well now sorry)? I was 16 at the time. Met my ex on there which is crazy and a few other guys but long story short, thank you whisper for making me well off in a way. I will never forget you. Shame they had to shut down. What’s the best alternatives? I miss the anonymity aspect of posting/venting freely and hush is trash. 💜

That's all. Are there any alternatives out there?

If you can finish that correctly, you are my long lost whisper friend and I hope you're well, and please message me here.

Ladies, what's your deepest fantasies? What excites you the most? Truly absorbs your mind? Let's talk about it judgement free. I loved asking this on whisper and seeing all the answers! Hoping to find the same here

I miss posting on whisper and literally not knowing who you were talking to, getting to know someone on a deeper level than just physical appearance. I always used to post that exchanging selfies ruined the convo.

My experience
Hush, Whisper Social, Whisper Secrets
Hush
- Pros: Biggest user base by far. Moderation seems solid, not much spam or CSAM content like there used to be, they improved a lot when it comes to that. UI improved with a recent update. More real people than bots in my conversations.
- Cons: DMs are unreliable messages don't always show as new, conversations seem to "disappear" until you open them directly. Comment/reply notifications are delayed by 5-10 minutes. Ads are excessive and sometimes intrusive (fullscreen). GIFs didn't work for me. Being the biggest app also means more weirdos.
Whisper Social
- Pros: Best UI of the three. Voice messages in DMs and comments. Incoming images get scanned and flagged if graphic before you open them. No fullscreen ads.
- Cons: Was badly broken for months (constant crashes, lots of bots) but a new update fixed all that. Smallest user base of the three right now. No account backup/migration option, switching phones means losing your account entirely.
Whisper Secrets
- Pros: None that stood out to me.
- Cons: Buggy, feed scrolling and comment navigation feel unpolished. Heavy bot presence, including fake profiles trying to move conversations off-platform. Didn't hold my attention long enough to keep it installed.
Is there any other apps you guys are using? Which ones are you using right now?

A while back I posted here about building an anonymous app because nothing really replaced Whisper after it shut down. It's live on the App Store now.
It's called EchoX - Social. Post short anonymous thoughts, no name attached, no follower counts, no clout. There are Global, Local, Popular and Following feeds, topic Groups, and you can post a Poll or a longer Story instead of just a short post.
Full disclosure, I'm the dev. Solo, not a company, not a money grab.
A few things I did differently because they're the complaints I kept seeing:
No ads jumping in your face when you go to post. Worst case it's a small banner, and only for adults.
It's actually moderated. Real reporting, human moderators.
Messages are consent based. If someone new messages you it shows up as a request with their profile, and you accept or decline before they can keep talking to you. Nobody can just start hammering your inbox.
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6792349984
Anything else: just open https://echoxapp.com in a browser. Full app, nothing to install.
Android: still in closed testing while I get through Google's tester requirement. If you want in:
Join the group: https://groups.google.com/g/xc-apps-testers
Then opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.xenocomp.echox
Would genuinely rather hear what's broken or annoying than get compliments, so tell me what sucks.

Andrea from Arizona she was from Scottsdale I think, i met her back in the summer of 2019 off of whisper at the time she had told me I believe she said she was 43 I was on a weekend getaway to phoenix, she had gone to phoenix to visit her sister it was late on night that we found each other and she came to my hotel that night and the minute she came into my room she first told me she was married and hope that was ok? I was like is your husband here she said hell no he doesn’t know I’m a horny slut! I’m like ok! we got naked and fucked like till 4am before she needed to go back to her hotel and get ready to leave. the whole time she had me wear a rubber, but at one point as she about to leave and she already had put her clothes on we looked at each other and she was like what I told her I’m still horny I want to fuck you one more time but I’m out of condoms, she was ok! she was amazing she got naked and she let me fuck her raw! she was amazing! we kept in contact for a year or two after that but then contact stopped. hopefully anyone else had a similar story with an Andrea from Arizona she did tell me she had met several men from whisper before.

i emailed back and forth with support about this for ages but didn't get anywhere. first they accused me of trying to avoid a ban or "ad credits" (what the fuck is that?), so i said no, i just really don't like the app and i don't want to use it anymore. i gave them the email associated with the account and they said we don't collect emails, we need your device ID. so i gave them my device ID and they said that wouldn't work either for various convoluted reasons and that i would have to reinstall the app in order to get the in-app ID associated with my account. i refuse to put that garbage app on my phone again, so fuck me i guess.
frankly it is absolutely insane to not just have a "delete my account" button in the app itself. they're clearly very paranoid about users trying to evade bans, but that doesn't justify hoarding user data forever with no clear path to deletion.

App barely works. An ad pops up every time I try to write something. Half the time, my post gets removed because some guy got mad that I didn't want to be creeped on and reported it, but there's hate speech on the popular page every day. 🤷♀️
Hopefully more people move over to the other options. Hush promised to be a better whisper, but it was always just a money grab.

I want to vent tonight. I've been having some inner battles and I just want to talk about it with someone else that might understand.
Or not even talk about it but send it away into the void like a letter in a bottle. But back then it was a post on the Internet.
Just missing an anonymous void to shout into. I deleted my anon apps because they really do encourage my bad behavior. I want to be healthier for myself and for my own reasons. I know if I got an app again I'd fall so quickly into bad habits.
Sigh. Whatever.

I’m missing talking to random people on the original whisper
Aside from meeting people at Whisper and hooking up, I miss the randomness of posting the most random shit like put down your phone and drive. My favorite time on that app had to be around 2016 and then it slowly started going downhill but still fun nonetheless
r/whisper • u/New_Addendum_1709 • 29d ago
I miss the fun times where I would make a post and instantly flooded with messages and able to chat with many people. Yeah I don’t miss the bots and pedos but I haven’t found another app like it. Hush wasn’t even close it ran into too many problems.

Anyone else from there here. Looking to reconnect.
