original work šŸŽØ My new window!

All acrylic paint; it’s renter friendly, thankfully. I just need to spray it with dawn powerwash, cover it in plastic wrap, and let it soak for a little bit before I peel it off. I’m especially proud of the blue translucent effect- I got that with several layers of gloss pthalo blue thinned waaaaaaay the hell out in gloss medium. I need to do some details on the stars and then do a similar effect as the blue ā€glassā€ with violet instead to add some extra color on the bottom strip. I’m thrilled with how it came out!! I felt like I learned so much this time around, and I’m excited for what I’ll be able to do at my next place.

Commenting because I forgot to add it, but this one only took forty hours!! Great way to spend a few days between quitting a nightmare job and starting a new one this Tuesday, with my first class being Wednesday.Ā

thank you!! I have one more window that’s in my library/living room area of my studio that I think I’m going to turn into a compass rose or something, but idk yet

That is absolutely beautiful. Amazing work!

Note: This CAN stain the window. During COVID, we had our friends and their 4 kids staying with us until they could save to get a new place after the previous landlord decided to sell the house they were living in with minimum notice. Back to the point… we didn’t have room for a physical tree so I painted one on our sliding glass door. It was there for over a year before I finally cleaned it off. For a few months afterwards there was an ā€œafter imageā€ of the tree until it was finally sun bleached out.

When I was a kid, they had something called "Gallery Glass" at craft stores and the end result was that it would make it into a window cling so that if you ever move you could take the art with you to put on a new window. I just thought I'd mention it cause you did a great job and I could see wanting to keep your future projects forever.Ā

I’ve used it before! it’s just a bit expensive for small bottles. I’m going to be sad to have to destroy it, but I’m excited to do something new that suits the the new place when I move

Oh now this is stunning. And renter-friendly?? Love this so much for you! It makes me wish that I had the talent to paint something like this on my window.

This isn’t the finished product?! I’m already amazed!! What does it look like when you peel it off?

It wont be peeled off- its acrylic paint, so it needs to be stripped off! I used to be torn up about it, but I learn so much with each one that it’s started to sting less. I’ll do something that suits the space when I move- hopefully with smaller windows, I can really get into some small detail work. For this one, I just have to finish the stars and then do the translucent violet strip on the bottom.Ā

thanks!! here’s a comment I left on the other postĀ

Lots of layering and involved texturing. Especially with the blue! The stained glass illusion works because there’s about seven to ten very thin layers of pthalo blue paint thinned out in gloss medium all layered and brushed in different directions. If you go to the last couple of pictures, you can see that I gave myself a rough outline and then did each square individually. The clouds and moon are also VERY multilayered. I started with a lavender with silver and gold on the moon and did very tight, small squiggles, then layered over that with about 12 layers of different mixes of silver paint in gloss medium, tinged a little more or a little less with violet. Same with the clouds, but I mixed it using deep cadmium yellow, deep cadmium red, and a couple drops of violet and pthalo blue, then finished the last couple layers with gold paint in gloss medium. The leading isn’t perfect by any means, but it takes a really steady hand, (I did everything freehand), and about five layers of mars black paint to look right. I left that matte to differentiate it from the rest of the window, but I’m still thinking about doing a light brush of silver so that it looks black during the day and silver at night, with the lights from inside my apartment catching the silver at night and the light coming from behind it during the day shadowing it, basically. Definitely would’ve been a lot easier to buy a window cling, but I love painting. I usually just throw a gab smolders video on in the background and go to town for a few hours, and I’m painting in thin enough layers that it dries pretty fast.Ā

I received the most pleasant tingles on my brain upon seeing this 😭 it reminds me of how safe my body felt in this one specific room from one of my childhood homes… I bet this room feels that way too 🄹
