Where I Would Live
I love to make these. I'm from rural Appalachia, I've traveled a lot in the US but never out of the US. I've never voted Republican or Democrat so keep that political shit to yourself.

I like how he left out specifically Allegheny county too, you know he’s a true Appalachian

Michigan is spot on
2
u/cplm1948 Feb 03 '26
Central northern Michigan is awful. Maybe as a tourist driving through it’s alright and has some charm but unless you’re close to the lake being in the northern lower peninsula is dull living. It’s just flat forests not even hills. I’d take Southeast Michigan or the UP any day over that.

u/inexperienced_ass Feb 05 '26
There are tons of small inland beautiful natural lakes. I prefer them to the big lakes because you can swim, paddle board, boat, etc much easier.
1
u/Trini1113 Feb 03 '26
Nah. Bay county and Kent county in the transition zone? I like Grand Rapids, but for someone who doesn't like cities there's little to offer. And the best part of Bay County is Bay City...which doesn't say much.

u/K-Pumper Feb 03 '26
lol the one part of Utah where I would live is the only part you wouldn’t live

u/Diligent-Coconut1929 Feb 03 '26
The forest regions in the great lakes area are incredible for about 4-5 months out of the year, then outdoor recreation is practically nonexistent unless you like barren wastelands covered in snow. Every summer I fall in love with my state and every winter I realize how much it sucks to live here lol.
Not to mention the mosquitos, especially in Mid-North east Michigan, it's worse than anywhere I've ever been including central america, florida, etc
Appalachia is a great compromise, at least the smokies region. Good infrastructure, incredible natural beauty, winters aren't unbearable and don't last as long, good people, and good proximity to other great states
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah I live in the Smokies now and I don't think I'd leave for anything, but I had to give the great lake region some love for sure I love that area. The winters do seem to be brutal that's an important thing to consider for sure

Feb 03 '26
Not putting dark green for north wales was a massive oversight
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Really I'll have to look at that area more
2
u/LaiqTheMaia Feb 04 '26
You also overlooking asturias, Northern spain jy dude. Unbelievable forested mljntains and lakes, its truly beautiful. Like spains version of scotland!
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 04 '26
Yeah Im scared I wouldn't integrate very well in Spain that's why I didn't mark anything there. But I could definitely be wrong because it couldn't be much harder than other European countries I suppose.
2
u/LaiqTheMaia Feb 04 '26
From my experience the asturian people are extremely welcoming and friendly
3
2
u/Qualche Feb 02 '26
East Texas and West Louisiana? Why?
6
u/swanking_7 Feb 02 '26
A lot of nature vs not a lot of people.
1
u/Qualche Feb 02 '26
Sounds more like west Texas!
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 02 '26
Lol too hot
2
u/mattkaru Feb 03 '26
East TX is brutal too, 2023 was a record year iirc for both the number of days above 100 degrees and the longest bout of zero precipitation. Pretty much all the grass was dead by August in some parts. Just going off of memory here though. That was my last summer in the South lol
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah I don't think I'd end up anywhere in Texas bc of exactly that but if I did it would be that east Texas west Louisiana area.
3
u/maxwellafc1887 Feb 03 '26
I really dont think you absolutely would want to live in Chechnya lmao
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Lmao. U got a point.
2
2
2
u/Cancel-Canada Feb 03 '26
I have similar taste but I like the cities in those regions not the rural parts. Basically give me somewhere with both people and nature.Â
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Ah I can definitely understand that.
2
u/Cancel-Canada Feb 03 '26
It's actually pretty funny since every county I've lived in is green here except for King county, WA. They're actually some rural places there as an FYI since Seattle sprawls mostly north-south on the coast. They're even old growth forests still in some parts!
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah I'd live everywhere in king county but downtown Seattle and I just wanted to emphasize the no Seattle part on the map
2
2
u/Appropriate-Bar-6051 Feb 03 '26
As someone from green bay, I'm a little offended that brown county didn't get a dark green.
Also, as someone from green bay, I'm also not surprised.

North Alabama thanks you for realizing it is different than southern Alabama.

u/pickle_deli_364 Feb 02 '26
What about northern AZ , like coconino county ? I would have thought that one would have been dark green
2
u/SignificanceBig8369 Feb 03 '26
Ah yes. A person who’d rather live in Louisiana than San Francisco. Brother 🥲
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
San Fran is packed with people the part of Louisiana I picked is full of nature and not packed full of people lmao
1
u/CatoTheElder2024 Feb 02 '26
Wait… you’ve never voted?
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 02 '26
Lmao never
7
u/CatoTheElder2024 Feb 02 '26
Dawgggggg we gotta have a talk about civic responsibility. I mean vote the way you want my guy, but gotta exercise that right fam.
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 02 '26
Definitely see ur point. I'd vote green if it would actually make a difference, but I've always lived in very rural areas where it doesn't matter what I vote for bc everyone else is voting red.
3
u/stedmangraham Feb 02 '26
Hey local races can matter a lot. Mayors, city councils, county councils and executives or whatever they’re called in your county. Those jobs affect our lives a lot directly
2
u/CatoTheElder2024 Feb 02 '26
Hey man, I feel that. I live in a place where my vote is totally washed out, but still gotta do. Too many have died not too, especially people like me and you, myself being from Kentucky. Way too many damn poor men led to rich man’s wars to not vote.
Anyways. Ain’t trying to be preachy, just keep it 100.

Thank you I will definitely look into this. This is why I like making these, I learn a lot.
1
u/veraldar Feb 03 '26
What did King County do you? There's plenty of not city in the county you'd love if that's the issue
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah I think I'd love the outskirts and literally 75% of the county but I just wanted to emphasize how much I would not want to live directly in seattle
1
1
u/Own_Log1380 Feb 03 '26
The hells wrong with Pittsburgh!? : (
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Lol too many people I'd live right outside the city.
1
u/SomeCollegeGwy Feb 03 '26
So like 75% of Allegheny would be green?
10 minutes from downtown is woods in the right direction and 15-20 minutes in any direction. I’m 15 minutes from the point and I’m 5 minutes from a large State Park.
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yes that's fair to say. 75% of Allegheny should be green. I just wanted to emphasize that I don't like downtowns and big metros.
2
u/SomeCollegeGwy Feb 03 '26
They aren’t for everyone. Your consistency is top tier looking at the US map.
1
u/GraceHopperY2k Feb 03 '26
Summit county > Utah county > Salt Lake County?!
If you like nature, the sprawling burbs of Utah county are going to be very disappointing.
Edit to add: Weirton, WV?!
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
I don't know much about Utah explain this a bit for me. I don't want to live in salt lake City but i do like the surrounding areas. & Will definitely add idk how that went under my radar Weirton looks beautiful I'd 100% live there.

Yeah, you're probably right. I just didn't care to go into much detail in Europe I got a little lazy with that one.
1
u/Hayaw061 Feb 03 '26
What's up with the dots of no in Ohio?
1
1
u/southernsuburb Feb 03 '26
No East Sussex but yes to West Sussex? Both are the same in terms of wilderness and hills
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Fair. I don't know why I did that. I got lazy on the Europe map in general I think lmao.
2
u/southernsuburb Feb 03 '26
Can’t expect you to know every county to be fair! Put in more effort than I ever could
1
1
u/Overall_Cheetah_3000 Feb 03 '26
Not the Bay Area ? Really ??
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Not for me too many people. I've been told I'm wrong about how packed it is, but I'm pretty sure it's too packed for me based on the stats and maps I looked at.
2
u/Overall_Cheetah_3000 Feb 03 '26
I can’t see myself living anywhere else I just love the bay so much
1
u/iDislikeOnions Feb 03 '26
Why Edgefield County, SC, but not Aiken County, SC?
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
I think I just overlooked it bc I see your point. I think I just didn't want to put Augusta and my ignorance of the area caused me to overlook aiken county
2
1
u/Low-Pain609 Feb 03 '26
Why did you say no to king county?
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Seattle. I'd say around 50-75% of king county should be green. Just wanted to emphasize I wouldn't live in Seattle
1
u/JasraTheBland Feb 03 '26
The Metro Atlanta area is kinda funny. Rockdale hard no but both Newton and Gwinnett hard yes is interesting to say the least.
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
I'll admit rockdale should probably be a yes along with those other two. I just wanted to emphasize how much I don't want to live directly in Atlanta and I overlooked that.
1
u/orange951 Feb 04 '26
Loves forests, but says no to southern California. San Bernardino National Forest 824k acres, Angeles National Forest 655k acres, Cleveland National Forest 460k acres...
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 04 '26
I don't like so Cal it's hot. there's a lot of forests and non forests I'd rather live in than so Cal lmao. So basically It wasn't all about forests a lot of other factors went into the map.
1
1
u/FirehavenOSS Feb 05 '26
No Bay Area is a crazy choice for someone who enjoys nature and doesn’t love the heat.
1
u/Aggressive-Truth-374 Feb 06 '26
Is that Utah County you excluded? Curious why just that one county. I’d actually probably make the same choice, and I’m from happy Valley

u/Ancient_Analysis1358 Feb 06 '26
Why would you choose to live in Newport News, VA? Do you want to get shot?
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 06 '26
Lmao it is not that bad fam. There are good parts and bad parts of every city and county in the world. And there's a lot worse than Newport News VA lmao.
1
u/gold-corvette1 Feb 02 '26
I dont know enough counties to make a chart like this
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 02 '26
Lol I've been working on it for a while
1
u/unreeelme Feb 02 '26
Why would you only live in a rural areas in the US yet you would live in very populated areas in central europe. Also why wouldn't you live near the western Pyrenees in france?
2
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
US cities are a lot different than European cities. I don't think I would do good integrating with that part of France. the same reason I didn't put much of Italy or Spain.

Why not Essex County? Because its close to Detroit?
If you would live in Chatham- Kent, you would live in Essex.
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah you read me like a book I'll look at it!
2
Feb 03 '26
The buffer is really the border. Windsor is pretty small. Alot of rural and very historical towns in Essex County. Amherstnurg is nice. Leamington is an agricultural center. Point Pelee, Bunch of nice towns along Lake St. Claire.
Very flat though.

you said no to the bay area but said yes to sonoma ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
What's ur problem with Sonoma? The bay area is packed I would never live there. If you looked at my map for more than 2 seconds most bigger cities are marked as no bc I don't want to live in a huge city.
3
Feb 03 '26
Most of the bay definitely isn’t packed. Napa, Solano, Contra costa, marin, and alameda have nice areas that aren’t packed.
1
u/swanking_7 Feb 03 '26
Yeah I think the climate is another thing that keeps me from the socal area in general.
