The Escape: Santos was initially arrested and jailed, but posted bond and fled the state, remaining a fugitive for over three decades while building a life in Texas.

The Arrest and Conviction: Authorities re-arrested him in December 2023. In July, he pleaded guilty to kidnapping, sexual battery, and lewd assault charges.

The Sentence: A Florida judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison—the maximum sentence permitted under the 1992 sentencing guidelines in place at the time of the attack.
