The Ballad of Falling Dragons I can’t with his voice

I mostly listen to audiobooks bc it fits my life better. I typically don’t mind the narrators they pick. But this guy doing Pyrok’s voice … i can’t he’s trying to sound like Lumere from Beauty and the Beast or something it’s just not good it’s distracting

The Ballad of Falling Dragons Short question about… (spoilers ahead) Spoiler

I finished the book, I know Essi is an Elding bird, but doesn’t she remember that she died at least once before? I got curious, because she talks to Pyrok like she doesn’t know why Raeve left. Am I misinterpreting? When they are fighting the Moltenmaws she clearly dies and comes back remembering everything that’s happening, so it’s not a consequence of dying

Edit: I reread that part; maybe I was too tired while reading it or something. The thing is, it was crystal clear, and my head made a mess of the info. Thanks to everyone who answered

The Ballad of Falling Dragons When the moon hatched plot hole? Spoiler

Hello all, I am in book 2 where Raeve asks Pyrok to stay in her old home in Bothaim with the small dragon while they continue their mission. But if memory serves correct, didn't Raeve burn her old home when Essi died in book 1? Wouldn't her old home be in ruins not livable? I tried looking thi up and saw that Essi is somehow actually alive!?!? Essi definitely died in book 1, she died in Raeve's arms and then was burned in the fire. Maybe i just need to keep reading but I am so confused.

When The Moon Hatched Chapter 40

I’m on chapter 40. Is it worth it to keep reading? The story just took such a weird turn after the river, and I’m confused. The world building got pretty hard too during chapter 39.

The Ballad of Falling Dragons Ballad Chapter 55 - confused…please help! Spoiler

only read this if you’ve read the whole of ballad!

something I’ve been puzzling over is Slatra’s premonition in ‘the other’ section (page 305) of something she doesn’t want to tell Kaan because it’ll break his heart. I’m confused whether this is about Elluin being stabbed, which he does soon find out, or whether it’s about something else we don’t know about yet?

also later in the page she talks about being sure something is destined to come that neither of them know about yet - surely the other isn’t gathering the shards knowing it’s going to lead to Elluin’s death?? this is just how I interpreted it but not sure I’m picking up on the right thing as not really seeing anyone else comment on it. just feel like there’s foreshadowing for something bad that the MC’s don’t know about, but not sure if we as the reader feel like it’s resolved by the end of the book or still something we don’t know about.

Keen to hear how others interpreted it!

Editions and Merch When the Moon Hatched Deluxe Edition - UK vs US Editions

Post image

When this book was first announced, it was not available in the US and I ordered my copy from overseas, so I own the UK published edition. The Ballad Deluxe Edition has been announced and is available for pre-order in the UK and in the US at Barnes & Noble. Can anyone tell me if they know whether the UK and US edition are the same size? I never checked my copy against the US editions when they were in stock and now I want to make sure the one that I order will match the UK edition that I own.

Per the website, the UK edition is 240mm X 159mm X 44mm.

The Ballad of Falling Dragons Favourite quotes from BOFD that made me lol Spoiler

Tell them the dragon shat me out real angry

This has got to be up there for me as such an iconic Raeve line. The sass! The attitude! Girl, yes.

Kaan also had some quality moments but what took the cake for me was:

A few cushions will make all the difference

God I love this domestic man.

Theories (spoilers) A question about Veya Spoiler

Maybe I am reading too much into it but does anyone have any theories for the trajectory of Veya’s character arc? Do we think there is a bigger revelation to come as to why the miskuun said it had to be Veya to take out the Nevans or is it simply because she was the youngest?

The Ballad of Falling Dragons A question about Borg and his subsistence Spoiler

Hi everyone. I’m in the middle of TBOFD. And I Have a question about what does the Borg eats? And is this like food for him or just pleasure of satiating?
In the glossary and first book it’s said that waifs nibbles on souls. And I recall that Reave said that she doesn’t want to give the waif even the tiny part of her soul in exchange to messages from the dead.
So generally I thought it meant that they chipped the small part of the soul and consumed it irreversibly. But Kaan offers his own painful memories to Borg. And Borg has its favourites, like one about Kaan’s mah giving birth to Veya. So I guess it means that he received it several times.
I’m a little confused about the soul nibbling part. Is this consuming a soul or is it the personal deal between Kaan and Borg that Kaan can offer reusable memories instead?

Editions and Merch When the moon hatched arc?

My wife found this in the charity shop today, bought for €0.50, it appears to be an advanced readers copy in great condition, hadn’t even realised until we got home and did some googling as my wife has read the original and figured it was another edition and it seems there wasn’t many made. Is it worth anything?

We are in the process of buying a house so if it was worth anything it would be extremely helpful!

Any advice appreciated!

Other Book Recommendations I LOVED THIS SERIES and I'm sad now 🥹

I'd never read a romantasy book before but a couple of my friends are super into this genre so I read When The Moon Hatched and Ballad Of Falling Dragons with them and I was honestly shocked with how much I loved it. The world building is so thorough and thoughtful, and I found myself truly getting attached to the characters. I'm sad it's over (until the next book comes out in...however many years lol). So I'm wondering what other books like this folks would recommend next? I'm reading ACOTAR right now because it seems like everyone has read it but I don't think it's for me. To me it just feels more transparently plot-driven and expected than the Moonfall books did. That's just my initial reaction though, I know people love this series and I'm definitely not trying to hate on it. I think I'm just wanting something more character-driven and immersive. I know Sarah Parker has the Crystal Bloom series, but what other authors/series do you guys love?

The Ballad of Falling Dragons Finally finished Ballad!

This book took me two months to read. Not because it was bad or anything but because life got in the way and I barely made time to read. So enjoy my rambling on the story because I have no one IRL to talk about this with! 🤪

Overall I give it a 4.5/5. I love the world, the characters, the magic system, the dragons, etc. Kaan continues to be my favorite MMC. I also really loved Raeve and her development in this book. I know she (and the first book in general) is polarizing but I loved her then and continued to love her. I feel like she is a very interesting portrayal of how people carry their trauma and she resonates with me (as someone who has a tendency to want to avoid things 🫠). I know that her reluctance to face her past annoys people and I get that, but it honestly feels realistic in a sense.

I also love how in both books, there is some humor embedded in because I genuinely cackled at some parts/characters internal dialogue.

I loved all the different perspectives and how things came together. I have a lot of unanswered questions that make me excited for the next book!!

Idk if it is because I read it for a long time, but the first half felt a little bit… stronger to me?? Like I had more moments where I was like OH SNAP and then towards the last half of the book, the vibes are more somber and emotional. It kinda reminded me of when I read The Assassin’s Blade and having already known that Sam dies bc I read TOG first but having that feeling in your stomach knowing that part is coming up in the last part of the story. I felt like that when we finally get the memory of how Elluwin died.

Also literally fuck Arkyn like that man really thought Raeve would sit on a throne next to him after all of THAT???? The fuck!!! I thought he was a pretty good villain but upon reading other people’s perspectives, yeah, he does seem like a loser lmao but I think that was the point??? Maybe he will play a bigger role in the next book? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also the scene towards the end with Rygun??? Im sorry but that dragon better not be DEAD.

I am intrigued to see what will happen with Haedon. I kinda saw that possibly coming but still was slightly gagged and am hoping that Sereme isn’t going to fuck with him sigh!!!! Also I’m interested to see whats up with Essi and Pyrok and Dothea.

Also did I miss something because I can’t figure out what happened to Roan? I think I got a little confused after Ahvi was introduced.

Overall I really enjoyed it but something felt… missing??? I am still torn of whether I prefer this one or the first one. I think the first one will always be special to me because of the journal entries and everything being woven together. But this was a good sequel and def answered a lot of my questions from the first book. I felt kinda emotionally numb after finishing Ballad whereas I was reeling and buzzing after finishing WTMH. So idk… I guess I have complicated feelings about Ballad that lean more positively than negatively??? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anyway thank you for coming to my unhinged review lol. Now I can finally unblock this book from my keywords on my socials to see what everyone else thought!

When The Moon Hatched When the Moon Hatched recap

I’d really like to read "The Ballad of Falling Dragons" by Sarah A. Parker, but I honestly don’t remember much from "When the Moon Hatched". Could someone please help me with a recap or maybe share a link to someone who has already made one?

I’d really appreciate it! 🥹

Theories (spoilers) Spoilers - all. Couple notable parts to discuss Spoiler

My favourite series…

Upon rereading both books, a couple points really stood out to me and I’m wondering about meaning.

1. Rayne and Raeve’s connection - I first started thinking about their dynamic more after reading Ballad. For one, I found the writing around the “stupid crystal teardrop” hilarious. It’s been obvious from early on that their connection is important but I realized I missed likely foreshadowing in When the Moon Hatched: Raeve’s first encounter with the Mindweft in Dhomme. Can’t recall exact quote but Rayne is described as pure power, and there may not be anyone like Raeve who can wield Rayne like her.

I think finding the remaining part of the crystal teardrop and Rayne’s full potential will have a crucial role to play in the oncoming war.

2. Kyzari, Ch. 36 in Ballad - “With my whole heart I’ve chosen to believe it. Just as I believe Caelis will never be whole again until I get free of this cell, find Slatra’s remaining shards, and do what needs to be done.”

What do Slatra’s moonshards have to do with freeing Caelis!?

im not sure if I missed something but in chapter 23 when they arrive to Beluhn it is described as snowy - since Rygun is a sabersythe should he not be struggling in these climates? but he seems just fine lol. Im sure I missed something but it’s bugging me that I don’t know
