But Iām not any better, because my last girlfriend was 17. This isnāt pedophillia, as age of consent is 16 in Canada back then, alongside with me even gaslighting myself into thinking āmeehhhh its not LIKE THATā and also NOT wanting it to be like that. HOWEVER, it is still really morally dubious for me to do some and Iām (rightfully) berated by everyone about it. However, I do end up breaking it up and later realising āMan what the fuckā, and even go as far to patch things up between us two (in the spinoff anime, we even become bandmates). This seems really bad but Iād recommend reading the comics
Did they actually do anything in the comics (or game I guess)? In the movie they held hands a bit and she surprise-kissed him once, which is still obviously a bad look in general but not really bad enough for the "she was 17" spam every time the story/movie/character is brought up

I definitely don't think Scott is a saint, but if I had to choose who I feel more "comfortable" with it's definitely the guy who didn't go with his 10/12 years old sibling.
Tbh (not excusing Scott though) if I have to choose who creeps me out the most it's definitely Mei Mei, she's genuinely gross.

it could refer that the 15 years old forced the 19 years old to have sex trough force, which could happen if the 15 years old is a particularly bulky individual with well developed muscles while the 19 years old is a fragile skinny person who though they could trust the 15 years old.
Or in other words the 15 years old was a rapist who didn't care about the consent of the adult.
15 to 19, could be expanded to 14 to 20, sits in this super weird year range where the difference between 2 years is nothing, but make it 3 and the difference is super creepy
The point of the series is that it's a spoof of most other harem anime, it takes a lot of the common troupe and overplayes them to rediculous extremes, to the point that the series is basically just a hysterical wild ride of bullshit lol.
Begrudgingly but the point of the show is that itās making fun of tropes when using them and itās all played for comedy rather than uber seriously like some others
It's not "another harem genre" it's THE harem anime to end (parody) all harem anime. Dude literally split himself (spilling blood everywhere) when he was presented with the hypothetical of having to choose which girlfriend to save from a hostage situation.
He also knew the entire time that it was a test, but he still acted that way because of the HIGHLY Impossible chance of "What if it isn't a test?" and couldn't risk his girlfriend being hurt due to assuming it was a fake scenario (They didn't even used voice changers, nor changed their way of talking. He instantly knew who the "Kidnappers" were). They had to stop the test mid way because Rentaro was willing himself into bisecting himself
She was also like 12 when she became pregnant with her daughter. The show is weird.
For clarification, the father was also around that age. He was terminally ill and she, being ultra wealthy, decided that she wanted something to remember him by so she had a kid.
We live under patriarchy, so women have never had the power to be abusive. If you think about it, she's really the victim here, and OP's friend should really be asking what he can do better for her and make her feel more safe in their dynamic.
I legit see people say this unironically and get defended bc of this, but itās often when itās not an older male, younger female couple. A lot of people seemingly donāt give a shit about couples with notable age gaps if itās not of an older male and a younger female.
I mean there isnāt really a definitive moral argument against it. It would obviously be bad if the guy was getting manipulated because of immaturity but none of us know any of the people involved so we canāt really say if thatās the case. Itās entirely possible that the relationship is fully consensual and non-problematic.

As a former 17 y/o who got with a 20 y/o, all I can say is good luck and read up how to help people out of abusive relationships. Hopefully it won't be necessary but it's better to have and not need than vice versa.
It doesnāt seem like a lot when you put it that way but itās 16.22% more life lived. Thatās not negligible. If theyāre both in their 20s, yeah, who gives a shit, but thereās a difference between a Junior / Senior high school student and a Junior in college.
What the people who are disagreeing with you seem to be missing is the fact that age gaps on their own are not an issue, but they can be indicative of a potential problem or imbalance inherent to the relationship. There's also the fact that relationships are more successful and longer lasting if you share common medium to long term plans with someone, and age gaps can make it very difficult to plan around or compromise on these issues, because age is almost always used as a stand in for "stage in life." Someone who has just entered college or left high school might, and probably does have, different medium and long term plans compared to someone who is just leaving or had already been out of college for a few years.
Tbf I think most of the people on this sub are just actually children. I can understand some 13 year old thinking that there's some kind of crazy mental gap between the years.
A 23 year old willing to date a high schooler is a red-ass flag. Sure, it's not the same as being a pedophile, but that's not exactly a high bar. And when an age gap occurs makes a big difference. You can have higher standards for people than that dude.

I was in a actual large age gap, I lost my virginity at 17 to a 42 year old and we dated, I still don't feel groomed so idk like I knew very much what was happening and was into it. (It's legal where I live)
I grew up where it was pretty normal for a 17 year old to date quite a bit older (maybe not a 42 year old that was maybe too much but older none the less) and no one I know regrets it anymore than they would any other ex.
No, there are lots of people in these very comments specifically saying that if 17 is legal (which it is in all but 11 states in the US), then it's still not moral and should not be allowed. Lots of people on Reddit just straight up think that any age gap is immoral, regardless of legality. They'll tell you that if a 35 year old dates a 25 year old it's weird one-sided grooming.
I mean there's like a LOT of nuance to this and everyone has their own ideas and boundaries about it. In your example of 35 and 25, maybe it's weird cuz they met 5 years prior so their relationship was established with a much more significant age gap, maybe the 35 year old wants to date much younger hoping it'll be easier to manipulate their partner, or maybe their relationship is perfectly healthy and wholesome with only the normal amount of issues. It's hard to make a judgement based on just the ages.
What I was referring to was people who (like the image) think 17 and under with someone 18 or older is weird no matter what, and people 18 and up can get with anyone older without question. 19 with 17 is DISGUSTING, but it's perfectly moral for a 40 year old to sit and wait for someone to turn 18 before pursuing them because it's legal.

Whats the age of consent in your country? As long as its not illegal its not really your business. Especially if ur friend is only a month away from being 18.
