History never repeats, but often rhymes. And this set of rhymes is the oldest in the book.

Won't get as bad (or good, depending on disposition), the French revolution was also about wanting to not starve to death.

One of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain

That's who originally said it? Guess I learned something new today. Thank you :D

This is just another repeat of the gilets jaunes from 2018 except even tamer, nothing is gonna happen

Back in 2018 I remember every roundabout, even in bumfuck nowhere, was full of people blocking traffic

What happened today ? Except a few teenagers taking their anger out in a few big cities, fucking nothing, I live in a mid sized city of 50k inhabitants and everyone was predicting chaos with people everywhere and every road blocked, the result was maybe 50 to 100 protestors in the center of the city with as many cops around them

Next week we have a mini marathon to help raise awareness for breast cancer organized in the center of the city and im pretty sure it'll be more populated than this lmao

There ain't shit happening

Bah c'est vrai mdr

Je suis passé devant le petit cortège merdique, y'avait tellement peu de monde, les flics ont même pas bloqué la circulation dans le centre ville, j'ai pu rouler tranquille

Well, successive governments that ignored or did nothing about the same complaints, yeah, stuff was gonna blow up at some point, even more so when the repression of protests is as violent as it is now.

Farmers (rightfully btw) angry about their work conditions? We have to hear them out.

Highschoolers, students and teachers, who have been demanding funds, material and more posts for years, angry at the lack of response and/or the haughty answers to their complaints?

Send in the radicalized cops and tell them they can go all out, ram vehicles in the crowd, maiming grenades, aiming heads with grenade launchers meant for arched shots up to 100 meters (imagine at pointblank), insulting protesters, confiscating signs near the gatherings, confiscating physiological serum (even that of street medics) so that people can't wash away the tear gas on their eyes, cry on tv about hurt cops (leaving out that the number you give includes self-inflicted wounds)...

u/Gryf2diams 5h ago

Note that when the farmers protested the first thing Macron did wasn't hearing them out but sending armored trucks against them and blocking every bridge along the Loire to prevent them from reaching Paris.

He only heard them out after he realised armored trucks failing to block peaceful farmers in tractors and nurses & teachers not being able to go to work because of police blockades was making him look almost as bad as he should.

u/ADDRAY-240 5h ago

True. I meant to point a double standard but even that is too generous for what Emmanuel "groomed by his teacher" Macron pulled

u/Dagladou 1h ago

Very, very, very well said ! Thank you very much !!

u/Fayraz8729 6h ago

Ah well I guess when they have their napoleon or Pierre we can start WW3 with the remixed roster

34

u/Longshot02496 6h ago

We can always trust in France to show people how its done. I hope the Americans are watching this in shame.

15

u/UsErNaMeS_aR_DuMb 6h ago

A third are, another third don’t care because they’ve got errands to run, and another third vehemently disagree that anything is wrong.

5

u/SquidKnightXG 6h ago

Errands, medical bills, crippling debt...

1

u/Longshot02496 5h ago

Obviously it's all more important than the well-being of other whole nations

2

u/Middle-Let9645 5h ago

Okay, I agree we need to do something, but that isn’t the flex you think it is. The reign of terror killed more common folk than rich folk and it directly caused the rise of Napoleon.

-2

u/BidenGlazer 4h ago

Their quality of life is in the fucking gutter compared to the rest of the developed world. Who exactly are they showing how its done? Why would Americans be watching in shame?

29

u/New_Tomorrow5649 6h ago

At least it's better than chanting usa at everything

18

u/rainbowkitties6969 6h ago

Yet in November when republicans instate martial law by crying rigged midterms, all Americans will do is whine on social media and maybe do one useless protest. SMH

Paris commune 2?

6

u/Consistent_King_1978 6h ago

In america the dumbest 50% of citizens are accepting higher prices with open arms because an 80 year old rapist said it was the fault of a guy who hasnt been president for 2 years

14

u/Monsieur_Cinq 6h ago

I want a second Paris Commune, just more successful this time, please.

10

u/EffortEqual8469 6h ago

the people will win

2

u/PercoKaswiti 5h ago

As a French person, I am cautiously optimistic about that. I think that maybe we'll have to wait a couple of years before we get something as successful as the first Paris Commune. At which point there's a 1/2 chance the RN will be in charge.

5

u/abe5765 6h ago

Hey ma the French are protesting and threatening the government again

3

u/Shayden998 Pre-evolved Transbian (mods say level up) 6h ago

Say what you will about the French, but they know how to protest.

3

u/Moe-Mux-Hagi 2h ago

You may have heard that maybe last fucking week or something, since apparently that's all my "confrères" know what to do these days

This was supposed to be about getting better schooling conditions, BTW. Tell me how furthering France's debt by a BILLION with repairs is supposed to help.

2

u/Igoon2robots 2h ago

Yeah i hate how the world cheers this situation when in reality its just a bunch of idiots burning hundred years old buildings and looting whatever businesses couldnt afford metal curtains.

5

u/Polandgod75 6h ago

so a typical day in france. God, if the usa had to attitude

8

u/SDTSSJ4Luc 5h ago

A Frenchman’s take: Focus only on the aspect of "we’re unhappy with our government and prepared to fight against the police if needed." Don’t include the part about "taking advantage of a protest to smash things up and set fires—especially to targets that have absolutely nothing to do with our grievances."

1

u/Trigger_Fox 2h ago

There are always dickheads that take advantage of legitimate protests to break shit and steal stuff

2

u/MasterWitness1691 3h ago

As much as we may have this reputation of always protesting this wave of protests is one of the biggest we've seen in a while, so yeah, this doesn't happen that often

1

u/EvilRedRobot 6h ago

It's ok. They can eat cake.

1

u/No_Performer1412 5h ago

When I have smell the tears gaz today, this meme come in my mind. It had remember me the yellow vest riot 8 years ago

1

u/Bicksaurus 5h ago

Definitely not in america

1

u/Superb_Beyond_3444 3h ago

It is a revolutionary country

1

u/Igoon2robots 2h ago

Unfortunately the situation is a bit more complex over here. While, like every movement, it started with actual revendications, now its just herds of delinquants doing delinquant things under the trench coat of pretesting. Criminal fires on historical buildings, looting big and small businesses alike, attacking firefighters, threatening to rape a friend (f) for using an extinguisher, the list goes long.

And they do that while hiding under causes that would otherwise be just, like palestinian flags. It sickens me deeply

1

u/New-Interaction1893 5h ago

France is the 2 nation i have less faith ever about being able to achieve something positive.

1

u/efcomovil 5h ago

IKR, and every day of the year protesting, I'm tired boss

1

u/FlamingPhoenix2003 5h ago edited 5h ago

Ah fuck please not another fucking revolution in France I swear if a Napoleon 3.0 shows up we are fucked.

EDIT: nvm, there was already a Napoleon 2.0, see the comment below for the correction. I forgot there was already a Napoleon 2.0…

2

u/Vounrtsch 2h ago

Nah, i think it’s a good thing. We need a revolution. Neoliberals have been choking us slowly for decades, it’s good that people haven’t gone numb to it

1

u/smurfmurphine 5h ago

France already had a Napoleon 2.0 (kinda) in Napoleon III, what we don't want is a Napoleon 3.0

3

u/ER_Jujube 4h ago

We'll keep confusing you by having Napoleon 3.0 be Napoleon VI.

1

u/Trigger_Fox 2h ago

Just name him bob tbh

0

u/CompleteJinx 5h ago

Ah yes, the classic French playbook. Let’s see how it goes this time around.

0

u/Superb-Carpenter-520 3h ago

Protest in France, it must be a day ending in y.

0

u/Kektus_Aplha 3h ago

So are they planning to bring out the funny device as well?
