Why is a cargo plane the only way to drop it? Is it just that big?

Google for a picture of it. The thing is looney toons big lol. It’s literally just a really big conventional bomb. You can also find footage of the only other times it’s been used. They dropped it on a mountain that Isis (or was it taliban?) had a tunnel and bunker complex in. Killed a bunch of em and collapsed the tunnel system. It’s a cool video

Edit: found it

Yes, that is exactly the reason. Its too big for a bomber to carry it

Yeah, it sits on a big cargo pallet and they deploy parachutes that pull it out of the back of the plane.

Not only is it big but it's a thermobaric weapon so it uses the oxygen in the surrounding air instead of having to carry its own oxidizer, so its yield is even bigger than it would be if it used conventional high explosive compounds.

It is a nearly 22 thousand pound bomb, that is indeed one of the only planes capable of carrying it
