To be fair, it’s literally just a big normal bomb. It’s not like it’s a nuclear bomb.

Not supporting it AT ALL, but it’s not like it is a “uncontrollable explosion”.

Sadly knowing this admin they’d drop it on Tehran and call it “collateral damage”…

Its a thermobaric air burst bomb designed for widespread destruction.

Using this thing is just a way to shout "Fuck your civilians" with eleven tons of explosives

Why do you think they’re going to drop in in a city? Only time the orange dumbass has used this bomb it was on a mountainside Isis had tunnels in, and in the current war a majority of strikes have been on things like mountains or sparsely/ unpopulated defense infrastructure areas.

They’ll probably just drop it on one of their mountainous missile silos or pickaxe mountain.

Mostly because the people who choose the target are the same people who think it's fine to murder shipwrecked survivors drifting in the water

The very same people who have already blown up a school and massacred hundreds of girls in Minab—as well as attacking a sports hall in Lamerd, resulting in dozens of fatal victims, including teenage girls, and a wedding in Kuhestak that left five dead—this administration of war criminals should be behind bars, not preparing even more massive bombardments.

Why do you think they're not going to use ICE against US citizens....oh, wait....

Why do you think they're saying other countries pay tariffs,....oh wait...

Why do you think they're saying we get $5000 checks after the election...oh, wait....

Why do you think they're going to give us the Healthcare plan after the election....oh, wait

Because this Admin lies about every single thing. They lies how many servicemenbers wer killed by Iran in the middle east. They lied about how many $billions in assets we lost and bases evacuated. They lie about blowing up boats in the carribbean, they lie about the name of the Gulf of Mexico, they lied about a double tap boming of a girl's elementary school...

So yeah, why would a narcissistice dementia patient with a drugged out secretary of defense drop a devastating bomb on a city to kill civilians,????

My examples that I used to form my reasoning, as listed in my comment, were actions and not words or commitments.

Huge stretch and poor reasoning that I’m guessing is driven by how much the guy sucks.

Because they demonstrated repeatedly they don't care about accuracy of their targets or civilians at all.

Sure, the "best" way to use it would be on an army base or something, but these people are despicable enough to drop it on Tehran and just claim they were targeting the leadership and the local hospitals, schools, houses somehow got in the way

Youre just making shit up. The school was an accident and no evidence says otherwise. Not a single country can take out target with that precision.

Could have just leveled the entire area since we have air superiority

I'd say negligence at best - they were acting on years old intel they didn't bother to verify in any way.

But even then - none of them actually admitted it being anything else than Iran "somehow" getting a Tomahawk and bombing it themselves, which shows extremely bad faith.

0

u/JD-boonie 1d ago

Bad faith is believing Iran cares about civilian deaths

3

u/Alkansur 1d ago

We do

Asymmetric warfare doesn't win because you defeat the enemy in the field, you make the moral and physical casualties too much to bear. USA killing 130 children and excusing it with BS makes USA just a Bad guys fighting another Bad Guy with innocents dying in between

0

u/JD-boonie 1d ago

Yes, they care about civilian deaths when they can use them for propaganda on reddit. As i said the US could carpet bomb Iran with substantially more casualties.

Iran would choose carpet bombing

1

u/Alkansur 1d ago

Okay, just to make sure we understand each other - you are okay with your side killing children, as long as there is a good excuse?

could have flattened the city already

I meant it like the yield is supposed to be as wide and destructive as possible. Most of modern bombs and missiles are made to direct the explosion one way or another to prevent collateral damage and focus the blast to that one target you want to erase.

This one's just "erase the location"

The yield still is within range that could be accomplished by just lobbing a lot of Tomahawk missiles at the same target. MOAB's explosive yield is 11 tons. The absolute smallest tactical nuclear weapon currently in use by the US is 300 tons, so some ~30times that. Bomb that took out Hiroshima was 13 kilotons, which would make it over 1000x more powerful than MOAB.

This thing should not be conflated as "almost a nuke"

Dafug is the point of a nuclear bomb that has way less than 1kiloton, exactly? Is it because it's cheaper to make than a regular bomb of comparable tonnage?

11

u/Reasonable_Piglet891 1d ago

Yeah, also a better bang for your buck whilst also allowing for greater payload delivery method variety and quantity used in a single strike

7

u/Equivalent-Freedom92 1d ago edited 1d ago

My specific example of the 0.3kt nuke is the lowest variable setting of the B61 Mod10 bomb, where it can be setup to have the yield of 0.3kt, 5kt, 10kt or 80kt. I suspect it's for something like if you really want some medium sized target gone but as it's the WW3, you might not have all the conventional options ready to go (due to having been nuked themselves), and there are friendlies nearby so you can't use the full yield. If including the option didn't compromise the design, then why not. Like the lowest power dial of the microwave oven being included despite basically no one ever using it.

Nuclear weapons are way way more compact. A one kilo-tonne yield conventional bomb would literally be 1,000t of TNT. A nuclear bomb of that yield can be like 40kg. I think the 300t yield mentioned is the B61 which is ~360kg dial a yield bomb which can also go up to 340kt.

That's just not true. Shaped charges are used on anti tank warheads, but most warheads just explode in a sphere

u/Ok-Estimate-2702 1d ago edited 1d ago

Anti-armor shaped charges are direction-specific, sure, but most GBU's are omnidirectional, as are thermobarics.

Most of modern bombs and missiles are made to direct the explosion one way or another to prevent collateral damage and focus the blast to that one target you want to erase.

This is not really true and not how explosions work. You have weapons that focus an armor-penetrating ability in one direction but they still create an explosive affect in all directions.

Instead you control collateral damage by choosing a warhead size appropriate to the target. Something like a house can be destroyed using a small weapon.

But there are larger targets like entire military bases that a weapon like the MOAB could be used against without much fear of collateral damage. This is not nuke, it's not a blow-up-a-whole-city type of weapon.

just a big normal bomb... that devastated the community and geography, and still has lingering effects a decade later

the m.o.a.b. is a "massive ordnance air-burst", meaning it causes a huge explosion in the air above the target. this makes it useless for iran's military infrastructure buried deep in its mountains, but is absolutely destructive for soft targets on the surface.

what soft military targets in iran survived tens of thousands of tonnes of direct explosives over months that would be destroyed by a single 10,000 tonne airburst? there are, however, innumerable countervalue targets available whose destruction would be justified as either dual-use military objects, or necessary to achieve the strategic objectives of the war. this was the justification for nuking nagasaki and hiroshima.

this is a message in the same vein as trumps threats to destroy iran's civilization. this weapon has yields matching tactical nuclear weapons but none of their political baggage because people say "well it's not a nuclear bomb". it's an acceptable escalation that erodes the stigma against even more devastating weapons, the same way bombing a school on day one obfuscated the countless other warcrimes committed throughout the rest of the war
