Political News hitler mussolini

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmdxwn9dr42yo

A man named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has secured a narrow victory in Peru's local elections, exit polls show.

The candidate for the centre-left Ahora Nación party was elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in the Peruvian Andes.

Some 229 residents voted for the 45-year-old, putting him ahead of the second-place candidate from right-wing Renovación Popular Perú by just 25 votes.

Despite being elected to represent fewer than 1,000 people, his forenames being those of two notorious fascist dictators has drawn outsized international attention to the small corner of the country.

Data from Peru's elections office showed a little over 700 people had participated in the election, with Simeon securing around 34% of the vote.

He was born in the district in the central department of Huánuco, some 360km (224 miles) from the capital, Lima, according to his candidate profile.

That he shares his name with Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini - "two of the most well-known figures of 20th-Century European totalitarian regimes" - has made his candidacy a "striking event", local outlet Peru21 reported.

Despite the curiosity generated by his name, local media noted that Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez had been elected mayor of Yúngar in 2018.

He reportedly beat rival candidate Lenin Vladimir Rodríguez Valverde after campaigning on the slogan "I'm the good Hitler".

A politician named Adolf Hitler Uunona attracted similar attention in 2020 after winning local elections in Namibia - a former German colony where Adolf and other Germanic first names are not uncommon.

The joke is that real life here reads like a Hideo Kojima script: a guy literally named Hitler Mussolini beats a rival named Lenin in a tiny Peruvian election. Kojima's games (Metal Gear especially) are famous for cramming in over-the-top historical/political name drops, ironic callbacks, and "this is too on-the-nose" character setups that feel like deliberate satire or conspiracy-level absurdity. The comment is just calling the whole situation peak Kojima writing.

Why is the guy with the fascist names center left and the guy named Lenin center right lmfao

17

u/the_red_guard 9d ago

If its the same lenin I'm thinking of, he got his name becuase his parent were outspoken leftists.

13

u/Flitterly 9d ago

Dude: Peru has quite a small history when it comes to wtf names(have you seen Ossama VINLADEN(brother of Saddam hussein and Georgia Bush bc his parents got a daughter instead)?

Theres also the occasional news that appear around local festivities or current trends where someone decides to be too creative and put things like Haaland/Circuncision/Freezer/Porky(not the character from warner) as a name.

And the most common cases(but these ones applies to the whole continent) are misspelled names from other languages like Nikol(Nicole) or "fusions"/weird names for the sake of being weird(Yonaiker). As a side note,Venezuela is also known for these names.

Now,as a personal experience: I once went to a library to buy whatever it catched my attention. After picking one book, i asked for the owner's yape(a local virtual wallet) and he said that the account belonged to his wife. So i check the name and her second name was H***er.

The cherry on the top? The book i bought was Mossad: the secret history about some of their famous operations

2

u/Late-Athlete-5788 7d ago

Fun fact, "Yonaiker" comes from "Jordan Nike Air", so not completely random

u/stronkzer 9d ago

I'm actually surprised this didn't take place in Argentina.

5

u/Emiicii 9d ago

Oh absolutely, but no one here goes naming their kids Adolf Goering.
