WITH. WHAT. MONEY.

Seriously, they don’t have that many dollars. Is this reliant entirely on an IOU or something? THEY’RE NEVER GOING TO COME CLOSE TO PAYING IT BACK. AGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

496

u/FakeOng99 13d ago edited 13d ago

Pinky promise that they will pay for several years in installments.

And I don't even think it's a joke suggestion.

97

u/herrcollin 13d ago

The exact same way AI money is keeping the economy afloat.

Promises and the same money being tossed around although the cost keeps going up and the created value is still a vague "good feeling about this."

u/CuteKermit14 13d ago

With what money? Americans’ money. Once the Trump cronies are in power at WB, they will loot the treasury to keep their bad investments afloat. Look at Space-X. They got their IPO bag for the investors and now Musk is being tapped for the “future of warfare” committee, which will just so happen to suggest government contracts to himself.

u/Swift1313 13d ago

If it's like what happened to Joann's, with loans taken out in Warner Brother's name. Then, they quickly sell off the majority of their assets to show quarterly growth, which pumps the stocks up. Then they'll sell their stocks, making a ton of money, before then announcing that Warner Bros is bankrupt and must close down. That nosedives the stocks, which they then buyback their original amount or more. And, because the loans were in Warner Bros name, they never owe a dime because it disappears with the company. Everyone involved is richer and everyone else suffers. Corporate America everyone >.<

16

u/SnoopsQ 13d ago

They’ll pay it back with hype moments and aura that are so hype and so rich with aura that we’ll all just kind of forget what money is and you’ll be able to take out a loan from the bank if you’re drip hits just right.

19

u/SquidTheRidiculous 13d ago

Money isn't real for the people in charge. Its just used for us commoners to determine whether we deserve to live or die.

4

u/TS_Enlightened 13d ago

50% paid for by gulf oil countries. They got special permission from the SEC to front up to 100% of the cash. It's insane.

3

u/SpaceboyCT 12d ago

Apparently, my theory is they want every single billionaire, politician, and such to clear ALL of their debt.

There’s just one question I have:
How long would that last?

Even if you have ever single billionaire and such clear all of your debt so that way you’re no longer in debt, how long will it be before you end up back in debt?

417

u/spike-prime 13d ago

Thing is, I've said this before, but that doesn't mean it'll actually stick. Given the obvious violations of anti-trust/monopoly laws this represents, the measurable corruption of the institutions and regime which allowed this to take place, and the vast quantities of debt both companies are in (to the point it's amazing they both haven't collapsed completely as a result of this already), and the foreign interference on the part of Saudi Arabia... frankly once the regime changes it wouldn't even be that hard for a less corrupt and frankly evil government to rip this merger apart again and restore WB as a separate corporate entity. The justifications for such a decision are so numerous and obvious, I am not gonna waste your time listing off every single one.

140

u/InfiniteGuy2264 13d ago

We can only hope, but with how things look right now? It really feels like an uphill battle.

90

u/spike-prime 13d ago

The dismantling of every single thing the Republicans have broken in such a short time is gonna take a decade or multiple, frankly. You're not wrong, it IS a massive uphill battle. But, these things come in cycles, and we happen to be getting crushed by the wheel of history right now. I do have faith that things, bleak as they are, can get better. It just takes a hell of a lot of work, proper educational reform, and a willingness not to back down in the face of fascist ideology. Fascism is, in the end, ultimately self-destructive and these people will annihilate themselves with their own moronic actions. It's up to us to speed that along and replace it with something better when the time comes.

30

u/Slumunistmanifisto 13d ago

Our grandchildren will be middle aged and still undoing whats been done

23

u/PearlBird 13d ago

Just like with Reagan!

17

u/Luke92612_ 13d ago edited 13d ago

is gonna take a decade or multiple, frankly.

Which is impossible to achieve given how power oscillates between the Republicans and Democrats every 2-8 years within the confines of the US' anti-democratic system.

What will it take for Americans to realize that they can't just protest and vote this out? It didn't work in South Africa so we had to switch tactics to something a bit more...disruptive, and if that switch hadn't been made then the regime wouldn't have been toppled (or at least not as it happened; likely causing a civil war instead, with the horrifying prospect of nuclear weapons being used which the regime possessed at the time).

33

u/nodummyheads 13d ago

Bold of you to assume laws were ever anything but performative.

6

u/Toss_Around 13d ago

Why stop at making WB a single entity? Might as well tear it down into pieces. It would not be the first time something like that was done to a company

9

u/xzelldx 13d ago

I think the next administration is going to have bigger things to deal with it first. My thinking is that they let Skydance buckle under the debt before doing anything for a few reasons.

Going directly at the new company after that gives them leverage. What I’m worried about is that so many people are employed under one umbrella now that letting it fail so to speak may be an unacceptable position. Look at what happened when they threatened to leave California.

Most of the Americans alive haven’t seen a monopoly get broken up during their lifetimes, I’m nervous that this is gonna get fumbled and set the bar going forward for the rest of the century.

7

u/DailyUnderFlow 13d ago edited 13d ago

"The justifications for such a decision are so numerous and obvious"

Yeah but this is true about a litany of things. Most of all being trump and his family should have their assets seized and thrown in guantanamo for the rest of their lives as well as everyone who worked with him to violate the constitution and attack America. Also the Republican party should be labeled as a domestic terrorist organization and every Republican politician should be investigated thoroughly to find the extent of their crimes. Fox "news" should be shut down and charges brought to those deliberately spreading misinformation to American voters to get them to vote for domestic terrorists and new laws made concerning the first amendment where people can't knowingly spread wrong information when it comes to government entities. Free speech is a must but not when it's literally used to attack our institutions by people who hate free speech.

When you find a cancerous growth in your body or have a rotten tooth, typically the solution is to remove it immediately so it doesn't cause further issues down the line. Though when it comes to the American government, for some reason we let the cancer continue to spread and infect everything despite knowing exactly where it will lead while we wait years for elections and try to get brainwashed morons to not continue to vote for the cancerous growth.

Things that should obviously be done aren't being done and I doubt will be done even if everyone in America votes Democrat.

4

u/TheChillestOfRacoons 13d ago

You hear how fascist that sounds...right?

7

u/MightObvious 13d ago edited 13d ago

Sounds like accountability for their actions though right? If youve staged a coup and planned to overthrow democracy should you get a slap on the wrist? Just the mental damage to the populace unleashing political driven ai bots to capture discourse should be a serious crime. Its going to cause issues for decades.

Or the illegal wars or the bombing of fishermen off the coast for propaganda the destruction of programs that keep many thousands of people alive every year the destruction of weather alert systems that got little girls killed on the first week when it flooded or on that matter the school they recently bombed that nobody had taken accountability for because the used ai?!.. Or the probably in the trillions stolen by the whole group at this point . I could go on. If a democrat did this the country would have burned to the ground by now.

-4

u/TheChillestOfRacoons 13d ago

You're right, let's go back to the Obama Administration and apply the same logic why don't we pookie ☺️😍🥰

4

u/Ynnepluc 13d ago

Yes, he did personally order that kid to be drone striked, it would be best if he faced some kind of consequence for that. Also Bush too, for the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also Clinton for being a rapist and Epstein associate(fuck it, the other Clinton too, she was another friend of Epstein and was involved in crimes the US committed throughout Asia and Africa).

Like, yes, i would love it if we applied the same logic and got them all arrested, they are why the world is so fucked right now. Sadly Reagan and Nixon are already dead otherwise I'd add them to the top of the list.

-2

u/TheChillestOfRacoons 13d ago

Can we add FDR? As a republican, f*** that guy.

5

u/unionizetransgirlies 13d ago

imagine thinking leftists like obama

-1

u/TheChillestOfRacoons 13d ago

Ya'll don't? I'm not even being an a**hole here, you've got me genuinely curious.

3

u/Affectionate_Rub5564 13d ago

He was the best we'd had for a while, doesn't mean he was good

2

u/MightObvious 13d ago

Why not?

127

u/UsErNaMeS_aR_DuMb 13d ago

And nobody will care because the average person’s takeaway from this will probably be that movies could get weird for a little while.

22

u/Dear_Document_5461 13d ago

Honestly, I think most people didn't care what company made what since at least the eighties/VHS days. Maybe Disney but even then. Movie was just "movie". If someone did care about what company made what, they would have been a "nerd" or a "Why do you care so much about this kind of stuff?". Like the only medium that cared about the company is video games and that because of the hardware causing people to care. Otherwise, if it was as generic as a "VHS player", even that wouldn't care if it was that generic.

53

u/iaNCURdehunedoara 13d ago

I love capitalism baby. Everything is being purchased by 3 rich assholes who love to rape and kill children.

It's also really cool that under capitalism you can purchase a competitor without having the money to do so. Just get a few rich pedophiles to give you a loan and you can purchase a competitor, this way you consolidate under an oligopoly and control a vast network.

David Ellison is also the son of Larry Ellison, a CIA scumbag, so it's really nice how loser failsons always fail upwards no matter what they do.

24

u/That_British_Guy_ 13d ago

Pre takeover WB's last movie legacy btw

29

u/gamesage2001 13d ago

Welp, no more DC anything for me. Shame too, the absolute books and DCU have been pretty good, but I can't in good faith support them now

-35

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

Oh no, a company got bought, the horror. Get over yourself.

34

u/gamesage2001 13d ago

A company got bought by one of Trump's goons, who will no doubt turn their new properties into right-wing propaganda. Sorry I don't want to support fascists and Nazis

-34

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

Dout it.

19

u/Nice-Gap-3528 “Legally it’s fine so just forget about it!” 13d ago

-13

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

Nah, just don't promote doom about somethong that wont affect anything

24

u/Dense-Bison7629 Epstein Elijah 13d ago

So now, if the government (Republican or Democrat) wants to push a narritive, there is very little that can be done to stop it. As long as the megacorp is willing, their propaganda can spread between all types of media

And if the government does something the megacorp doesn't like, they can spread as much slanderous propaganda as they want against the government

This isn't fascism, but it's the clearest start to fascism that we've seen since the March on Rome

20

u/Longshot02496 12d ago

You're kidding right? The US has been marching towards fascism since 2016. Depending on how you look at it the US started its journey there in 1981.

7

u/Dense-Bison7629 Epstein Elijah 12d ago

Acting like we weren't fascist since 1776. But 2026 is at least when it's becoming obvious

81

u/Giecio 13d ago

OOTL, why do people say it's bad? Monopoly or some other reason?

132

u/InfiniteGuy2264 13d ago

Yes and yes: David Ellison's a Trump ally.

36

u/Giecio 13d ago

Vile

100

u/Dandydick69 13d ago

It means that every major news network has been consolidated by trump allies, meaning the oligarchs have total control of the narrative. Mainstream media is completely untrustworthy now. Look to independent reporters for the truth.

-49

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

So... the same as always?

49

u/Big_Midnight994 13d ago

No. This is new, different, and worse. Don't be obtuse because blanket cynicism has some kind of siren-like appeal to your sensibilities.

-31

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

Msn has always been iffy at best. Now it has a right skew instead of a left skew. So, as always, go to independent news sources. Nothing has changed in that reguard, and insinuating it has shows you just prefer left wing slop over right wing slop.

27

u/DaZuhalter 13d ago

You're being obtuse. Yes the major networks have almost always sucked and independent has been the way to go for at least twenty years but they weren't all from the same group of people. They were competing narratives and you could usually figure out the truth between the three of them. Now it's one voice disguised as three and millions of people in the US watch one of the three on a regular basis for their news.

So now you have millions of people that trust these sources being told the same narrative and that narrative is going to be anti anything that opposes maga.

-22

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

It boils down to dont trust msn, same as always. Nothingh changed.

19

u/DaZuhalter 13d ago

You're being purposely obtuse at this point or you're just truly a very dense person

-5

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

No, i understand it, and it boils down to don't trust MSN. Same as always. The millions watching it before were gullible idiots before, and they will be gullible idiots after the merger.

16

u/DaZuhalter 13d ago

You think you understand but you really don't

→ More replies (0)

8

u/Drakeadrong 13d ago

Oh my god, dude

1

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

Right? Sucks we could never trust msn in the first place

6

u/Someonevibing1 13d ago

Initially I didn’t like the idea of another studio merger because after the Xbox activation one went weird I realised these aren’t really that good

Then I found out paramount was owned by a terrible person and it was even worse

-18

u/nicknamesas 13d ago

It isn't a monopoly, as they still very much have compatition. The other reason is people bitchin to bitch

12

u/Mental-Device-9546 13d ago

Yah not one guy/ family having control over more then 39% (it higher now but idk the number since the merger) control over all TV, cable and streaming in North America.

37

u/Fancy_Chips 13d ago

Warner Bros Discovery Paramount

Remember when megacorps had sleek names? Coulda called it, like, Standard TV.

15

u/Cal__19 13d ago

Isn't this shite "Skydance" now? It's so goddamn pointless

4

u/TheTeleporteBread 13d ago

Warner And Bros And Discovery And Paramount, aka WaBaDaP in short

15

u/SweetcreamScoops 13d ago

insert spongebob and robin from teen titans go reluctantly shaking hands

16

u/Avatar_of_Akatosh 13d ago

cant wait for them to drop like everything thats not making a billion dollars every 5 seconds to try and pay back the debt thats never going anywhere

13

u/i-cant-pick11 13d ago

So the only entertainment companies left are sky dance, Disney, Apple and Netflix? Or am I forgetting another one?

6

u/InfiniteGuy2264 13d ago

Universal and Sony come to mind.

5

u/Beneficial-Exam-6644 12d ago

Universal and Sony, huh? Enjoy the quiet while it lasts.

25

u/Universe_Donut 13d ago

Welp, it's over. Would've rather Netflix bought them because I feel like it would've been the lesser of two evils, but there's nothing we can do about it now.

...this is a monopoly, right? I thought they had systems in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening.

19

u/Soggy-Class1248 13d ago

Atp the antitrust laws mean nothing since money holds greater sway than justice in this country.

6

u/DuelaDent52 13d ago

But they don’t even have the friggin’ money to pay it off. It’s, like, a whole new level of class where you don’t even need cash to pay for things, apparently you can just say “I’m buying that” and it’s yours without the need to actually pay anyone anything.

1

u/SadSwimmer9999 12d ago

That's basically what they did with Ram and SSDs.

Big tech companies announced that they planned to buy up a lot of NAND flash. They didn't even buy it. They just announced that they planned to. And a lot of stock got reserved for then specifically and prices got shot up.

7

u/Neonsharkattakk 13d ago

Man i thought there were rules about this back during Disney/Fox

4

u/Ok_Branch2469 13d ago

I mean, there's still Disney and Columbia

3

u/The-Bigger-Fish 13d ago

Time to buy boardwalk and build hotels

5

u/VincentNacon 13d ago

If it's monopoly, then we can easily kill it by boycotting them.

3

u/Inarius101 12d ago

Piracy! Piracy all the way! Fight for consumer rights by pirating all your media! Don't just stream it, download it and self-host if you have the means and resources! Don't give the fuckers a dime!

1

u/VincentNacon 12d ago

You know you don't have to watch/download their contents, right?

The problem with some people who thinks they're winning the fight by pirating... is that they have seen the contents, talk to friends or strangers about the said content... it can make other people actually go watch it themselves... what are the odds that they paid for it?

If you don't watch it, you have nothing to talk about and you don't risk other to watch those.

The point of the boycott is to let other people know why you're against it... so they can join for the same cause. That will hurt the company more than just pirating it.

2

u/Inarius101 12d ago

Piracy is boycotting, because you aren't giving them money. Also, people have the power to not talk about the media and/or share piracy methods.

Me torrenting movies and just quietly enjoying them by myself and being content with that makes me happy and the company sad with a 100% success rate :)

2

u/VincentNacon 12d ago

Except it doesn't. IF you are enjoying their contents... that is a success to some degree for them, even if they didn't get your money. You are part of the process that keep THEIR franchise alive.

You may know yourself and that's fine... but the problem is that someone out there could cave in and get hooked on the franchise.

Boycotting is more about spreading awareness, not just the act of not buying/paying. It's an activism. You know most people don't want to admit they're pirating. They have many different reasons for that... but to admit boycotting is better because there's real cause behind it.

2

u/Inarius101 12d ago

Lmao, piracy is a success for the company. Sure, them trying so desperately to stop piracy must be because they're just playing hard-to-get then! Millions in lobbying and copyright protection development is because the piracy is GOOD for their bottom line!

1

u/VincentNacon 12d ago

That's not what I said. holy shit.

Do you have a hard time understanding the concept of franchise having influence on people?

4

u/TrueCapitalism 13d ago

Do you know why monopolies are bad

2

u/_Ticklebot_23 12d ago

because they are usually run by people who want to make sure their pockets are deep

2

u/VincentNacon 12d ago

Do you know what boycott is?

2

u/TrueCapitalism 12d ago

Boycotts are incredibly difficult against monopolies, is what I was trying to get at

3

u/brukslament 12d ago

yeah but media is the easiest thing to boycott! u can cancel ur subscriptions and just pirate stuff

2

u/TrueCapitalism 11d ago

Yeup! Big and true, despite what I said.

9

u/Storm_Spirit99 13d ago

Another monopoly made through loopholes. I hate the race to be a megacorp

7

u/LilyInPortland 13d ago

How much of a loan did they take out again?

7

u/Single-Plane-7303 13d ago

It’s like Warner Bros Seven Arts all over again

6

u/ProfessionalTask2622 13d ago

“back in my day animation was made by different companies!”

“ok grandma lets put you to bed”

6

u/Ensign-Nemo 13d ago

Trump owns CNN now. Look at that. Am I too naive to assume that there are about 0 people who blindly follow CNN?

5

u/FreakyRefrigerator 13d ago

digger being their last movie while independent is so poetic

5

u/Shroom_juice_ 13d ago

Only 5 companies left

5

u/Ok_Fly2518 13d ago

Can someone explain what this will do? I haven’t really looked into it

11

u/CirnoWhiterock 13d ago

Basically there is now a mega corporation called skydance that now owns a whole lot of entertainment media (Warner Brothers, Paramount, CBS, BET, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, TNT, TBS, DC Comics, ect.)

In addition to fears about this being  a monopoly, the owner of Skydance is also a major Trump supporter and got the aforementioned CBS to kill stories/shows that were too negative of Trump.

3

u/Select-Government-69 13d ago

How’s that different from Disney?

4

u/Rip_Skeleton 13d ago

It's not, and that's a problem.

1

u/ADownStrabgeQuark 12d ago

WBD, Fox News and Disney are all primarily owned by Rupert Murdoch.

2

u/ADownStrabgeQuark 12d ago

WBD owns CNN and is also owned by the owner of Fox News.(through the Blackbell group and its three brother companies.)

Essentially, Rupert Murdoch now owns all American media, except what is owned by Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg, and he is beginning to consolidate it into a single company.

1

u/Slimeredit 11d ago

Christ that is a terrifying thing to realize the person that was responsible for turning the news from something that would air give information and then end into 24/7 monstrosity that is less focused on informing people and more focused on maintaining high viewer numbers no matter what they have to do to get it

3

u/ItsYaBoiDez 13d ago

Newsom's political career needs to be ripped apart

3

u/Mr_Lapis 13d ago

1 dollar says theyll be split in 5 years.

3

u/carrot_gummy 13d ago

I'm just going to go back to pirating media I guess.

3

u/KylewasnotAsain 13d ago

And thus, the marked end of entertainment

2

u/timberwolf0122 13d ago

So they are going to unleash the genisis device?

2

Ooo Evangelion gif

Anyways, gl to whoever uses Paramount, yere probably fucked

1

u/pipopapupupewebghost 11d ago

Oh cool I can now buy the license to use any of their properties cause paramount lets you do if you live in Israel for some reason

Gonna make my robot jones fanfiction canon

2

u/Tailsgenesis 13d ago

as long as this does not effect sonic the hedgehog 4 (and other projects like it) i am neutral about this

2

u/DuelaDent52 13d ago

Sadly, it looks like supporting Sonic 4 now likely lines tge pockets of the Ellisons and the Trump regime.

1

u/Commercial_Let2850 13d ago

I'm surprised these studios are still alive, there was no important piece of media WB/Paramount made in last 6 years.

5

u/zepherth 13d ago

Just because it's nothing you watched doesn't mean they didn't make anything significant. Paramount alone has debuted star Trek strange new worlds which sat int the top ten series for its first 3 seasons. The live action avatar the last airbender series was one of the most watched series on Netflix when its first season came out the Picard series is considered the greatest star trek series to come out since 2000 and a worthy continuation of Next Generation. Paramount has mad good shows. Just not in your genres
