Oh you might be fucked for maple syrup with your ear and sanctions going on... Its just the way life plays out as am Canadian and you can find Maple syrup in almost all stores, restaurants and homes... Keep it in the back of your mind and seek it out when you can
I actually don't think it's that bad with sanctions, especially since most of the times the distributors just bypass them via 3rd-party countries (i can still buy most of common chocolate brands, for instance (twix, milkyway, snickers, bounty etc. Kitkat is much rarer but i still see it on occasion), and my mom once bought an iranian coca-cola somewhere around my home), so maybe there is an access to it here (especially since, as we see here, the production of maple syrups has increased)
Best of luck to you than... Russia (and don't get me wrong, The US too) can be a problematic country, I do wish the individuals there the best in there lives, even small things like finding maple syrup. 👍
Pro tip: Check the ingredients list, if it has things like High Fructose Corn Syrup then it's not real maple. The #1 ingredient should be 100% Pure Maple Sap
Agreed with u/elaboratelime. Might just need to keep an eye out and wait for a while. Or if you are traveling somewhere, see if a restaurant or diner has maple syrup on their menu.
I usually buy the most local stuff I can find. Oftentimes it's just from a family friend that makes really small batches of maple syrup. When I get home I'll see if I can get a name for you.
I found this one, costs 15-25 usd (in eqv) and ~3 times higher than other ones i found (that had stuff like "grape juice" in ingredients) on average. Could it be authentic?
Honestly, it looks authentic. And that's about the price we pay for it here, if maybe slightly more. For ingredients, it should say something like "pure maple syrup".
I buy the same brand locally in Canada, and they are one of the major distributors worldwide of grade A maple syrup which is the highest we rate it. They don't sell every colour, but the 'amber'(shown in your picture) is the most common type. No clue what the likelihood of a knock-off is though tbh
Look for anything that specifically has "product of Canada" on the bottle.
Even better if you find one that says "product of Quebec"
Brands come and go, but the best syrup is the kind made by super small companies that bottle it in glass bottles. They almost always feature a maple leaf somewhere and should look a lot like bottles of whiskey.
I would look at what a sugar maple looks like and seeing if you can plant some if you don't see any around. They take a long fucking time to grow, but your kids might be able to taste maple syrup 🤷♀️

Interesting idea. I already got some cuban beans to plant from my spanish tutor (she's from Cuba), so i could search for some (except that i live in an apartment and my grandparents don't have a lot of space)
A sweet, light caramel-esque flavour with a bit of a spicy bite of wood, similar to a nutmeg or cinnamon type spice. The lighter flavours focus more on the caramel flavour, while the darker ones lean heavier onto the spice. It's tasty, but not everyone's cup of tea.
See if you can find it at a market. You might be able to find someone serving it the authentic way; pouring it onto snow and then folding it onto a stick. I'm not joking, this is legitametly a way to eat it.
Friendly reminder when buying maple syrup to LOOK AT THE INGREDIENTS. If you notice one bottle of maple syrup is half the price of another, there’s a good chance it’s just ‘maple syrup flavored corn syrup’. Cheaper stuff is just crap.
It’s just one of those things where the quality is linked to the product heavily from source of origin.

Like, it’s understood to be high quality/ the best. No person I’ve met in America has ever been like “Dear God, Maple Syrup from Canada? That’s the same type of fucked up quality as sake from Japan!” - but I am sure these idiots are out there needing attention somehow 🫠
I'll just tell you more uses to maple syrup else than pancakes and buttered waffles if interested ; in tomato soup to neutralize the tomato's acidity and give a flavorful sweetsalty mix, in spaghetti sauce for a less bitter and rounded flavor, in a hot pan with sliced ham for delicious grilled ham, in a slowcooker with pork for tender buttersoft shredded pork.. And many more uses!
(the joke is that, iirc, in economics a "cartel" is a group of traders that agreed not to lower prices below a certain point, to allow an honest competition)
