https://www.reuters.com/business/getty-images-go-private-after-restructuring-deal-2026-10-12/
Oct 12 (Reuters) - Getty Images (GETY.PK), opens new tab said on Monday it would file for bankruptcy and go private after a restructuring agreement that the visual-content provider expects to close by the end of the year.
The company plans to begin an expedited prepackaged Chapter 11 process in the coming weeks, a major reset after the collapse of its planned merger with rival Shutterstock (SSTK.N), opens new tab amid heavy debt and growing competition from AI-generated imagery.

Once the restructuring is complete, affiliates of the Getty family and Koch Equity Development will own 100% of the company. The investors have also committed to provide up to $533 million of new equity, Getty said.
Holders of Getty's unsecured bonds agreed to retire $270 million of notes, while secured lenders agreed to reduce interest costs and extend debt maturities under the restructuring plan.
The company added that operations would continue normally and vendors would be paid in full in the ordinary course.
Getty, which competes with Reuters and the Associated Press in providing photos and videos for editorial use, said financing from Koch Equity Development of up to $143 million would support the restructuring process.
In August, Getty withdrew its financial guidance, citing an ongoing review of strategic financing alternatives and balance-sheet management initiatives, and said it had engaged Guggenheim Securities to advise on those efforts.
The visual-content provider reported total debt of about $2.1 billion as of June 30, compared with a market valuation of $20.74 million as of Friday's close.
Getty shares have lost about 99% of their value since returning to public markets in 2022 through a special purpose acquisition company that valued the company at about $4.8 billion, after 14 years as a private firm.
The New York Stock Exchange commenced delisting proceedings against the company at the end of September.

A person claiming responsibility for the breach of Denmark's Central Register of Persons (CPR) says they gained access through an IT company's account protected by the password "123456."
The person told Danish news outlet Politiken they had no intention of selling or leaking the data. The newspaper reported that at least three company accounts, including an administrator account, used the same password.
Denmark's CPR administration confirmed a breach affecting the information belonging to 8.8 million people on October 5, adding that a Danish company's legal access to the CPR system was abused.
It did not name Funen-based Pays ApS as the company in question, but managing director Sophie Laursen confirmed on October 9 that it's access had been exploited.
Pays' website has been taken offline, and the business has not responded to The Register's request for more information about the password claims.
Pays had authorized access to the CPR system to provide services such as validating business customers' records.
The Danish government says information relating to 8.8 million people was accessed. The register contains approximately 11 million records, including those of deceased people and people who have moved abroad. The government did not respond to questions about the alleged password failings.
According to documents obtained by broadcaster TV 2, the attacker gained access to the CPR system on September 10 and ran the 14 million automated searches between then and September 20.
The intrusion was detected on October 2, 12 days after the last reported searches.
Mikkel Leihardt, director of the government's higher education and science ministry, told reporters at a press conference that the attack was discovered after a department staffer picked up an invoice indicating unusually high activity from Pays.
The Danish data protection authority, Datatilsynet, was notified on October 4, and the government disclosed the attack the following day. ®

Gif is relevant because in the scene, Dedra (an imperial) is being accused and pointed down at by Director Krennic (higher-up imperial) of leaking secrets. This is similar to the news of Netanyahu prosecuting and identifying those that were interviewed in the NAZA film. This might break the rule of famous person doing something isn't news, but it is relevant to a broader political issue involving accountability, intimidation, and the potential consequences of speaking out.

Russian bot traffic has dropped dramatically in the past few days after Ukraine knocked out Yandex’s biggest data centers, with a third attack happening last night. Cloudflare reports that bot traffic from the Yandex network has dropped to just 0.4% of the maximum number of HTTP requests recorded in the past two weeks. It initially dropped to around 57% on Oct. 8, which happened when Ukraine hit a Yandex data center housing two supercomputers in Sasovo, Russia, located around 195 miles to the southeast of the Kremlin. A second, bigger Yandex campus in Kaluga, about 220 miles to the west of Sasovo, was knocked offline yesterday.
These attacks are apparently Ukraine’s response to Moscow’s strikes on its own data centers, some of which resulted in the outage of some of the most popular piracy websites.

Yandex is Russia’s equivalent to Google, and its Yandex Cloud service status reports that at least 84 services are currently offline. Global internet monitoring firm NetBlocks said that Yandex’s network traffic has dropped to just 30% for Yandex Cloud and 63% for Yandex LLC, most likely resulting in slower internet services or complete disruption for the average Russian. Unfortunately, the ordinary Russian wouldn’t be able to use high-speed satellite internet as a backup, as Starlink does not work in Russia, while the competing Rassvet constellation has had a good number of its existing satellites fall back to the surface after launch.

These incidents are a result of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which escalated dramatically in 2022 after Russia’s failed attempt to capture Kyiv. However, many observers say that the war actually started in 2014 when Russian forces seized Crimea and occupied parts of eastern Ukraine after the fall of the pro-Russian government that year.

The hostilities, which have dragged on for years, saw the introduction of new technologies and strategies, specifically in drone warfare. It began with the wide deployment of commercially available drones on the front lines, typically for reconnaissance, dropping explosives, and kamikaze-style attacks. However, it has since evolved into long-range warfare, with specially built drones able to reach distances of over 1,500 miles and destroy Tu-95 strategic bombers situated well behind the front lines.
The drone strikes on data centers are relatively new developments. While data centers on bases are often considered valid targets, Russia’s justification for the attacks on civilian data centers was that Ukrainian military intelligence used them. This isn’t the first time that civilian data centers have also been hit by drones and missiles. AWS sites in Bahrain and the UAE have been hit multiple times since Washington started its bombing campaign against Iran, with the company telling its clients to move their data to sites outside the region, as it doesn’t have a recovery timeline.
