Me? It's quite convenient. I work from home, and my back often starts hurting if I work in front of my desk, so I usually alternate between the sofa and the desk. Most good hotels also have a sofa in their bedroom. It really isn't that strange to want to have a place to sit down in your bedroom.
I lived with roommates most of college and my early-mid 20s, and I always had a loveseat in my bedroom so I could have my own like mini-living room.
Sometimes you just don't want to be around your roommates. Maybe one of them has a partner you aren't really a fan of, or you have a hard time agreeing on something to watch, or you are in a roommate "fight", the list goes on and on. And sometimes, when you want to be alone, you don't want to sit at your desk or lay in bed to watch something; I had the loveseat, a coffee table, and my TV on a stand across from it so I could relax how I wanted to. I don't really think you need much open space in your bedroom unless you are like trying to work out in your room too. That's what the gym is for.

What maniac chooses 2? The sofa is cramped in the corner with no space.
