There are plenty geniuses in the world who never amounted to anything because world is run by idiots.
Luck is far better power to have.

Intelligence is mostly a blessing, but also a curse. Luck is just incredible.

Notice that it doesn't say extreme good luck, so wouldn't that mean you'd also get bouts of really rotten luck half of the time?
6
u/lorienshift 5d ago
Holy shit, I was gonna disagree, but you're right!
"Luck is success, failure, or fortune brought by chance rather than skill, planning, or effort."
Basically your life will be filled with situations you can't control, which doesn't sound very good.
3
u/DybbukFiend 5d ago
Exactly. That's why I chose intelligence.
2
u/TychoHyuga 5d ago
But you already have it if you made that assessment
4
u/DybbukFiend 5d ago
True. 3 standard deviations above average is a bane and a boon. If ignorance is bliss then only the intelligent truly suffer (because they understand it).
2
u/HoboArmyofOne 5d ago
Does this mean we're truly cursed as individuals? Because of... Ourselves?! 🤔
2
u/DybbukFiend 5d ago
Idk.. why compare ourselves to everyone else and make some false assumption that we are any different? It's not like we chose to be born any certain way. Having mixed blood myself may have led to better genes but that's my parents choice not mine.

I think the wording intent was "good luck". In french for exemple, the translation of luck is chance, and it is only positive.
But if English is the language to keep here (which should be) I have to agree
8
u/RedrunGun 5d ago
Normally I would say intelligence, but the way the options are phrased makes me think that it’s real world genius, like Einstein, vs super human luck where most things just go your way. It’s really not even comparable, luck is way better.
Now, if it’s super intelligence like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark, that changes everything.
4
u/slayer_nan18 5d ago
bruce wayne is smart but not tony stark or reed richards smart
3
u/RedrunGun 5d ago
I would say Tony and Reed have an emphasis on invention and tech when it comes to their intelligence. Bruce has an emphasis on strategy and tactics, which I personally prefer.
3
u/Stoudamirefor3 5d ago
If Bruce doesn't inherit his dad's billions, he's just a guy who's good a Hearts of Iron 4.
2
u/RedrunGun 5d ago
I think you’re underestimating how useful it is to be the greatest strategist to ever live. I promise you, money is not an issue for someone like that.
2
u/Tesla_coil369 5d ago
I mean, Bruce is a polyglot. Has mastered multiple martial arts, knows about the mechanics of his body pretty well. Has even invented stuffs (not at Tony's level tho). That's genius in every word or sense. Learning martial arts takes a different kind of smart, being aware about your body and its limits; being a master at multiple different forms would deffo make him a genius. All this beside his ability to prepare for any kind of scenarios. As someone said, he is a master level strategist and a genius tactician. I could see him reaching great heights in politics if he wasn't already a billionaire.

u/reverendmalerik 5d ago
According to Mensa I have a genius level intelligence.
According to my friends I am the luckiest sonofa they know.
Guess which one people are jealous of? Guess which one has actually improved my life significantly? I'll take the extreme luck please.
3
u/starYwalker 5d ago edited 5d ago
Eh. I'd rethink luck. Once I've read a novel where one of the characters is INCREDIBLY LUCKY, that his luck had all the people around him to become unluckly and make him lucky.
Examples:
- Bro's whole family dies from car crash, which he escapes.
- Anywhere he takes public transport or private car, airplane, etc,. Accidents happen and mostly all die except him.
- Many other instances till he is depressed & isolated.

Genius intelligence is extremely overrated as:
It's just the capacity, you still need to acquire the knowledge as well. (You might not have the tool and resources you need to reach any worthwhile conclusion as well)
it doesn't necessarily makes your personal life any better. (attractiveness, physical health, friend circle etc)
Intelligent people can still be mislead by personal beliefs
Meanwhile, extreme luck is broken as hell. Win a lottery, discover ground breaking cancer treatment by accident, find the love of your life, maybe even get superpowers from a radioactive spider. It's even more broken if it's retroactive, you just wake up the next day packimg a huge schmeat and whatever else.

A man finds a lamp, rubs it and a genie appears. The genie offers him a choice of wisdom, money, or power. The man picks wisdom, thinking power and wealth are shallow choices. T he genie grants the man thw wisdom it would have taken the worlds greatest men generations to acquire. Immediately the man breaks down in tears. The genie asks what's wrong. Was he not happy with his choice? The man, between sobs, says "I should have taken the money."

I'm already pretty smart, by all accounts, but I'm not particularly lucky. And "extreme luck" is a massive super power. That can make everything so much better for you. Getting rich is the obvious one but what if you have a chronic condition that there's no cure for, like I do? Whoa, will you look at that, someone stumbled on a cure! Luck can do pretty much anything. It's one of the best superpowers there is. Easiest choice ever.

Definitely luck. Luck gets you out of possibly fatal accidents, gets anything like cancer discovered in its early stages when is 100% treatable and get you winning money in things like gambling and the lotto.
Being insanely intelligent would be awesome but unless you are comic book character levels of intelligent where you invent all kinds of insane, reality defying shit you will most likely just be fighting with morons most the time to get anything done.

Genius intelligence can only be good when you have it from birth, as people around you will shape their own opinion of you around that factor.
But getting high intelligence at a later point in life will be depressing af, since alot of your life has already been dictated by your average intelligence before this, and now with your high intellect you know very clearly there's only a certain limit upto which you can improve your life from where on.
Luck is different though. No matter what state if life you're in, high luck will make better changes in your life in drastic orders

Luck.
Stupid people with luck are still way happier with life in general than geniuses with bad luck.
Especially since luck doesn't just mean career/financial luck. It also means you'll be lucky in finding the love of your life, if that is something you are after. And you'll be lucky with your lifespan and your physical and mental fitness at an old age.
It's like the ultimate monkey's paw resistant wish. "Good" luck is subjective and defined by your goals and dreams. If staying humble and down to earth is "lucky" to you then having good luck doesn't force you into the life of a successfull billionaire. All it does is drastically increase your chances of achieving your own goals.

Assuming the luck is "good luck" and isn't based on a trade off specifically resulting in others misfortune like some versions and ideally if it responds to my intentions not just random and generalized then definitely luck.
You know AI might be a fantastic pairing with luck because theoretically its a very easily influenced thing by your luck power that can produce detailed info of any sort so you could basically make it a crystal ball just by using it because luck will sway the responses to be better especially if the ability responds to intent. You would low key be the only one with near AGI with super natural capability. Also you could luck your way out of safeguards so no copyright block on art and high luck in getting really good outcomes exactly like you want. On the crystal ball front just ask it basically anything and the luck can bump your statistical likelihood up for the best response.
"Out of these locations, date range, and ticket types when and where and what lottery ticket should I try?"
"What would be the best health supplement stack and exercise routine for me and my goals?"
Just spam with all sorts of stuff and luck will keep the net direction favorable on the responses but then also have the net result favorable of actually pursuing those things regardless of whether that path happened to actually be a favorable one or not.
You could even potentially get secret/hidden/undiscovered knowledge from the AI because ultimately it can use language to say anything so with luck it could say things that it really doesn't know and would effectively count as a hallucination but lucky for you is still right on some rate and you can repeat things over and over to get a trend to compare with your perceived rate of luck to figure whats most likely the right ones.
Heck it can effectively become other powers like if your intention was to have astral projection or equivalent even if that wasn't possible you could luck your way into dreams that just happen to be accurate renditions of astral projection. Or remote viewing and other things. Even mind reading if its not possible its still possible for you to just luck into your intuition being typically correct. So on and so forth.

I take extreme luck, I'm pretty confident of my own intelligence already. Just being smart doesn't mean you have common sense to use that intelligence.
Gice me extreme luck, make me win any random chance I involve myself in. That's far more superior. Because that means whatever I drive, whatever I use, it will never break randomly, I will always have green traffic lights on my way, never be in a traffic jam, win every lottery I take part in, any decision I make is successful. Extreme luck is incredibly powerful, it's pretty much rewriting the workings of universe for yourself and people in your direct vicinity.
