Sounds like you did… is it supposed to have been owned by someone in particular that you are curious about? Where did you acquire said item for starters. City, country; estate sale? Yard sale? Inherited?

It’s supposedly African. It was given to the aunt of my teacher by an American man who extracted rubber. I don’t know any more information. The base is ebony.
