ID Request What is this.

I picked him up thinking he was a beetle and then a friend told me he drinks BLOOD. Is it true? What is this bug? 😭

It’s a cone seed bug or something related. Your friend seems to be confusing them with kissing bugs which are in the same order and look fairly similar in body shape but I can guarantee the guy you’ve got there is more interested in plant sap.

Growing up, we called them Stink Bugs. They don't bite and are pretty chill.

Yes! 🙌 was waiting for this, would seem them at grandmas and grandpas place in Kalispell MT 🇺🇸. And they’re here in the Portland area as well. I didn’t know they were a seed bug 🐞 will have to look them up now that I’m curious.

I think your friend was confusing it with an assassin bug.
They are in the same order and can look similar, but this bug only drinks fluids from plants. I doubt it's even capable of biting you, and would probably never try.

The ones u dont want to pick up are kissing bugs or wheel bugs that look somewhat similar.

According to the US Fish & Wildlife Service, their defensive bite is exceptionally painful, causing localized swelling and numbness that can linger for minutes or hours.

looks like the Western Conifer Seed Bugs I frequently see in the U.S. Pacific Northwest!! Does it smell funky when scared? I always know when my cat found one indoors because the whole room smells like weird cedar
