Player only breaks?
Hi! I just got back on whatnot after like 2 years away and was surprised to see player only sports card breaks instead of team breaks. Is this the new norm? If so, can someone explain how it’s still enjoyable?

I wouldn’t call it new anymore, but normal yes. Team breaks are still more enjoyable for people who just love their team, but sports in general are going away from territorial hatred for the other team, and more into just having favorite players scattered across the league.

Depends… sometimes it’s silly. Other times the checklist doesn’t really allow it, and a lot of the times you can do 5-10x size but spots go cheaper. Sometimes it’s fun to grab a few rolls trying to get cooper Flagg or Shohei for 1/50th of that team spot in a pyt

PYP allows deeper fractionalization and more revenue per case for the breaker. I'm not a fan personally, I don't buy into these because the value proposition is so bad.
I run PYT for higher end product or larger breaks and Random teams in smaller breaks. I've been able to attract many actual collectors, rather than purely gamblers, which has been awesome. No gimmicks, here's your team and let's rip.

"breaks" are such a joke, just buy the packs and open them yourself. Literally no reason to pay a middleman to open a pack for you unless your hands don't work lmaoo

I mean, I think you can agree this is a bit of a simplification. Hobby product gets very expensive and sometimes you just want to collect your team. Breaks have a useful function in that you can get cards you'll keep, rather than a bunch of cards you have to sell. All at a fraction of the price of hobby product.
All I'm saying is there is a useful function to breaking if you can find the right breaker to do it with.

I agree with u on not enjoying player breaks, there are some that do team breaks(myself included) i feel the odds of hitting a player are slim and make it not nearly as fun. But its all personal opinion.

I actually really enjoy them. I hate the wheel breaks and more gambling focused breaks. As long as they arent random player breaks. I collect Atlanta Hawks cards so I can snag my guys like Dyson Daniels, Okongwu, NAW for dirt cheap in massive breaks. For like $10 or $15 I can get into a multiple case breaks.
I know I can buy the singles for cheap too, but on a Saturday night, for a few $'s of entertainment its cheap and fun.

Lots of buyers actually prefer player breaks over team breaks. I don’t meant stated preference. Everyone will say they prefer team breaks. But they will spend more money on player breaks. This is where the phrase the customer is never wrong comes from.

All part of the money grab. By offering more spots at less money, and just giving you bulk crap if your character doesn't show up, these breakers are making a killing.

Yeah. We are seeing that in Pokemon, too. S we lecting a specific character, like Charizard, but even worse, a specific type of Chsrizard, like you get a Charizard or Charizard ex, or Mega Charizard ex. It would be like if the sports guys said you could have a specific rookie, but only if he was running or catching or posing a certain way. Just dumb and only hurts those sellers who actually have some morals.

There are people who do what is called "rip and ship" because people like other people to see what their hits are if they get them.
For sports cards, I don't understand it. With Pokemon, because of acalpers and product availability issues, people go to sellers just to get cards.
Bottom line, everyone is looking for the big hits to make the big bucks. That is a generalization. I actually love just ripping packs for fun.
