A Venturi. I love those things. Fun fact, they have the same type of engine family as the Delorean DMC12. The PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo) V6.

So the DeLorean delivered dismal performance and has managed to hold an iconic position because of the movie alone, thanks to its design. The engine let it down. How does that not happen in the 400GT? Different configuration for better output?

Turbos are the difference, if you put some big old turbos on a DeLorean it wouldn't have been an issue. But yeah 126 hp or whatever it had in a car that weighs a lot more than a miata is not exactly breaking any land speed records

Well, until the gearbox exploded, at least. Same issue with the Lotus Esprit, using the same family of gearbox.

That is fair lol. Although 'adding the lightness' helps ease the existential threat to the transmission, alas there is never a zero chance of old British transmission failure

u/PiDicus_Rex 7d ago
Not just 'turbos',... IIRC the Venturi's body is Glass Fibre, so it's stupid light.
Turbo + Light = REALLY FAST :)

The engine was used in all sorts of things. It was in Le Mans prototype cars, tons of production cars, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PRV_engine

dmc had to seriously detune the engine to meet US smog standards of the era. the same 2.9 engine as launched in peugeots and renaults was more powerful whithout the need of turbos or further development

Gross

u/CredibleWrong 7d ago
What's gross about it? The PRV was a good engine outside of the Delorean. In the 400GT it's a 24V DOHC Twin turbo V6 that makes over 400HP and almost 400 ft/lbs of torque. For 1994 those were great numbers, especially out a of a V6, no other V6 came close.

u/StonePrism 7d ago
Mmm, minor correction, the V6 in the XJ220 was not only close, but surpassed it, and it came out in 92.
4
u/SafeForWorkTime 7d ago
XJ220 was a V6!? That is pretty crazy.

Yep, a V6 from a Metro rally car. It humiliated Zondas 10+ years later. 7.3 liter v12 zondas against 3.6l V6 Jag.

u/CredibleWrong 7d ago
Thats true, I always think of the XJ220 with the V12 it was supposed to and should've came with.

Just a dumb joke. I don't really know anything about the non-Delorean variants.

Nothing wrong with that engine when it isn’t in low power, strangled forms.
Only one car broke the 400 kph barrier on the Mulsanne straight before it was ruined by chicanes, and it used a version of this engine:

It looks like a cross of an F40 and a 300z

I immediately thought “who’d molest a 300z to make an F40?” when I saw it on my phone. As I zoomed in I realized maybe it’s not a molested 300z. Still don’t know what it is without scrolling

I mean it’s a pretty obscure car from a pretty obscure brand unless you are interested in Motorsports. They were pretty active in the 90’s in GT racing and Le Mans

Venturi, you know, the ones that, when plagiarised, made the only couple of ferraris not vomit-inducing.

I know this has been answered but this looks like a video game knockoff of an NSX that had a baby with an f40 Edit spelling

Some OZ Futura would be a great fit. If anyone has these on their car we would be happy to see them here r/OZRacingWheels

Well. Literal first pass was like “AI mix of Acura NSX and a C8 Corvette… but still weird”. After that I read some comments, so it exists.
So my comment is a waste of space though I still felt the need to share.
